My wife and I have non-Immigrant O retirement visas that will renew on 29 January. We plan to renew them this week, as they can be renewed up to 45 days in advance.
We also plan to get multiple re-entry permits at the same time. My question is this: I plan to leave Thailand on 7 January. Will the new re-entry permits cover us, or will they only take effect after the visa renewal is official?
Maybe I'm being ridiculous worrying about it (that's what my wife says), but I'd like to be sure.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual seeks clarification on whether their newly obtained multiple re-entry permits will be valid if they leave Thailand prior to their visa renewal. Community responses confirm that re-entry permits take effect upon issuance and are valid based on the stay permission stamp, which will reflect the renewal date.
Whatever the permission to stay stamp date is at the moment the re-entry permit is issued is the date it is good until. So AFTER your new extension has been inked in then you ask to buy a re-entry permit and it will be valid till 29th of Jan 2026
