Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here has experience applying for a DTV while holding dual citizenship.

I’m currently in Australia on a visa linked to my French passport, but my French passport expires next year. Because of that, I decided to apply for the DTV using my Canadian passport instead, which is valid until 2035.

In my application, I fully explained the situation and provided:

- my VEVO Australian visa details (they requested it after submitting my application) 

- my granted Australian visa documents

- an explanation about using my Canadian passport due to my French passport expiring soon

I’ve been transparent about everything and have nothing to hide, but I’m still a bit worried this could create issues for my DTV application under the Soft Power / Muay Thai activity category.

Has anyone here gone through something similar with dual citizenship or using different passports for visas?

I applied through the Canberra embassy.

Would really appreciate any feedback or shared experiences. Thank you 🙏

I had a similar issue applying from Vietnam. My entry stamp for Vietnam was in my other passport because I wasn't able to get the visa in time. I was asked for more information (full visa scans etc). I had to send photocopy scans of both passports and the relevant stamped pages with an short accompanying note explaining. It wasn't an issue but better to be upfront so you don't have requests for more documentation.

I did not tell them about my second one and just used one. Approved in 2 days.

Anonymous participant 902 It's not a problem to have dual nationality. I have dual nationality and told the thai embassy about it as part of my application for DTV. I also entered Thailand with both of my passports in the past. The first time I entered with my other passport, they asked me 'do you have two passports', I said yes, and that was it. They never mentioned it again.

Dual citizenship isn't a problem, but I don't think they'll give it to you for another passport, only for the one linked to your current residency.

HandsomeAvocado9183 Well, you can try. I would call and email the embassy about it before applying and try to find out if there's any chance to get the visa for the other passport.

You have to provide the VEVO document, I'd be very surprised if they accept that against one passport while allowing you to apply for a visa against another passport. It would have made sense to renew your French passport before applying

incorrect you can apply on a different passport even with a passport with a visa on application you declare you have another passport and then it's fine . I see you comment a lot on this group usually useful but when you dont have a Scooby don't comment . You also don't even hold a dtv visa .

HandsomeAvocado9183 - because you are in the jurisdiction with the French passport, so they will only issue the DTV to the French passport. There was a case on here where someone was Australian and had another nationality. They applied using the other nationality despite being in Australia under their Australian identity. The embassy wouldn’t do it.
