ORIGINAL POSTER
Hello everyone. My wife and I currently live in Doha, Qatar and are looking to relocate to Hua Hin in Jan 2026. We are looking at a O-A for me ans O Visas.

We been getting mix messages to if we are required to apply online thru Thai Embassy Doha or if we can do it Thailand. The appy in Thailand appears to be more straightforward vs. thru website interms of requured documentation.

Very confusing to which ditection to go, additional to wanting to avoid issues with applying the wrong way. Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the process of obtaining O-A and Non-O visas for relocating from Qatar to Hua Hin, Thailand, in January 2026. The poster seeks clarity on whether to apply for the visa through the Thai Embassy in Doha or upon arrival in Thailand, given the confusion about documentation and process. Community comments provide advice on applying for the Non-O visa from Qatar, mentioning requirements like health insurance and bank accounts for extensions, and highlight that the Non-OA visa must be obtained from an embassy.

Unless I miss understand.

You are hoping to apply for an OA visa, only available through embassies.

And then your spouse to apply for a non-o based on being dependant on your OA.

Yes this doable only through an embassy.

You cannot get a dependant on retirement in country.

Otherwise it is 2 non-o visas thru embassy also , so you may enter and get a bank account.

If you have a residency permit you can apply in Qatar otherwise you will have to travel back to the country of your nationality if you really want the Non-OA visa. Otherwise you need to travel anywhere that will allow you to apply for a Non-O visa. Many won't issue a Non-O dependant visa for your wife at the same time as you apply for a Non-O based on being over 50 so she may need to apply for her own Non-O based on being over 50. She can't get a Non-O dependant visa inside Thailand nor any nearby country

Suggest you each apply for a Non O over 50 retirement visa in Qatar through the e visa online system then when you arrive in hua hin you can open a bank account which will then allow you to each deposit 800k baht and look forward to getting your first year extension

Get the non O 90 day visa online from the Thai Embassy before travelling to Thailand is the simplest way. You can then open a bank account in Thailand and extend your stay by 12 months annually.

A non-OA visa is only available from your home country Thai embassy. Are you sure you're correctly talking about a non-OA visa? This is a visa that requires mandatory health insurance every year, a criminal records check, a medical certificate, and other things.

The non-O visa does not require any of these things and is available from almost any Thai embassy and from inside of Thailand if you already have a Thai bank account.
