remote work letter from my employer

Hi All, this is the work letter (wording) received and wondering if it will be suffice for supporting documents for the DTV workaction visa. I don’t think it’s perfect but they won’t amend it. Is it worth submitting as the 600 dollar fee is non refundable for rejected applications. I would love to hear some opinions. I’m from Sydney Australia

This letter confirms that Mr has been employed by ** Pty

Ltd on a casual basis since 23 June 2025 and remains employed with the company as at

the date of this letter.

Throughout his employment, Mr ** has undertaken duties in both face-to-face

and remote working capacities.

His existing casual employment arrangement provides flexibility for suitable duties to be

undertaken remotely, subject to operational requirements and the availability of work.

Mr may continue to be considered for suitable remote work opportunities as

they become available, in accordance with his existing casual employment

arrangements.

As is customary with casual employment, the availability of work and working hours is

dependent upon business requirements.

Should you require any further information regarding Mr employment status,

please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,
Summary so far
The user is seeking advice on whether a work letter from their employer will be sufficient documentation for their DTV workcation visa application in Thailand. The letter outlines casual employment with flexible remote working options, which several community members have criticized as inadequate due to its ambiguous language and lack of essential details. There are concerns that the wording may lead to a visa rejection, particularly because it emphasizes casual employment, suggests that remote opportunities are not guaranteed, and lacks necessary company information. Users have suggested alternative wording that clearly indicates a full-time remote arrangement and mentioned the need for additional supporting documents.

There's way better options than the bureaucratic regime of Thailand, that wont even ask for the extortionate requirements in order to stay long term.

Thanks everyone for the constructive criticism. My next question would be if applying for a DTV visa (Muay Thai) the Gym advertises as the DTV application is attached to the 6 months Membership Do I have to keep renewing this pricey membership to obtain a valid visa? Or once it’s issued and approved that’s it

Anonymous participant with just a six month membership you face receiving a multi entry tourist visa instead, as it is good for the six months of your class. Also the letter from your employer won't be accepted.

That letter will very likely get rejected for workcation, and with the 600 AUD fee non refundable in Sydney I would not submit it as is.

Why it fails the DTV checklist that Canberra / Sydney have been using:

1. *Casual + "may be considered" + "subject to availability"* - Embassy wording they want is: full time remote, or permanent remote position, employed and authorized to work remotely outside Thailand. Your letter says the opposite - work might be available, might be remote, depends on business.

2. *Started 23 June 2025* - That is 4 months ago. Sydney has been asking for 6-12 months history for casual roles, plus payslips. Short tenure + casual = looks like visa shopping.

3. *No company details* - No mention of company being non-Thai, no mention that salary is from outside Thailand, no job title, no mention that you can work from Thailand, no company contact ABN, letterhead.

*What Sydney does accept for workcation:*

- "Mr X is employed as [Job Title] since [date >6 months], on a permanent/full-time basis. His role is fully remote and he is permitted to work remotely from outside Australia, including Thailand. Company is registered in Australia, ABN XXX, does not have operations in Thailand."

- Plus 3 months payslips, 3 months bank statements showing salary, company registration extract

- If casual is all you have, you need to back it with 6-12 months of continuous remote invoices/payslips and a contract that explicitly says remote work allowed

*Your options:*

You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.

NGL that doesn’t look too promising. The letter needs to answer a simple question: “are you employed and can you perform your duties from Thailand?” This wording looks like it’s meant to dodge exactly this question.

Assuming you will be applying in Australia, your employer needs to say specifically 'i give (name) permission to work remotely in Thailand'. I had a great letter from HR but it didn't include this and they asked for a new one when I applied saying this specifically (Canberra office). HR wouldn't write this but my manager did and signed an amendment. That was accepted.

A similar letter recently led to an rejected application.

It mentioned that the DTV applicant is allowed to work "X months" in Thailand per year. X was relatively low ... 3 or 4 months.

Yours does not really look good.

Not the best wording. It should at least mention abroad? But, is it addressed to your local Thai Embassy?

That would seem to be problematic to me. It doesn't even say you are an employee with an employment contract

You'll definitely need to include permitted and authorized to work in Thailand remotely without any business contact with Thai entities or persons.

I think it may be rejected.

Mine just mentioned.

Mr BreathtakingGoose8959 is working as ... His work is remote in nature and is free to work remotely in Thailand.

It was approved.

Keep it short and simple. They haven't got time to read essays.

Ideally, your employer's letter should clearly confirm that you're authorised to work remotely from Thailand, that your duties can be performed remotely, and that your employer approves this arrangement. The current wording is quite vague.

I'd recommend including your employment contract, a detailed personal cover letter explaining your remote work arrangements, and all other relevant supporting documents.

Make sure your application is complete, well-organised, and that all documents are consistent and support each other.

Depends on the embassy but most would reject it or ask for a letter that explicitly grants you work from anywhere in the world / Thailand

It seems like it would be problematic. I read it as if you are not employed, but that they sometimes hire you and maybe you can do some work remotely but some requires you to be there. It will be very confusing
