DTV Workcation DENIED despite providing requested documents considering reapplying from Indonesia. Any similar experiences?

I was recently denied a Thailand DTV (Workcation) visa and I'm trying to understand what may have gone wrong before reapplying. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I'm a Spanish citizen and initially applied through the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid.

For my original application I submitted:

* Passport

* Photo

* Bank evidence showing more than 500,000 THB equivalent

* Evidence of remote work/freelance activity

A few weeks later, the embassy requested additional documentation:

* Proof of education / academic qualifications

* Official bank statements for the last 3 months showing transactions and balance above 500,000 THB

* Professional history prior to the incorporation of my LLC

* Evidence of active business operations (client invoices, business profile, etc.)

* Income and tax certificates for the previous 3 months

* Documentation proving the legal incorporation of the LLC

I provided everything requested, including:

* University degrees (Sport Sciences and Nutrition)

* English CV

* Approximately 14-15 months of invoices

* Tax documentation

* Income records

* LLC registration documents

* LLC invoice(s)

* Bank statements

* Evidence of ongoing remote work activity

For context, I've been working remotely in the fitness industry since April 2025. I provide online fitness coaching services through a long-term relationship with an international company.

My income has been consistent for over a year.

My LLC was incorporated in February 2026, but my professional activity existed long before that. The LLC was created to better structure and manage international payments and business operations.

After approximately 7 weeks of processing, my application was denied.

The only explanation I received was:

"After evaluation, it has been determined that the application does not meet all internal criteria required for visa approval."

The embassy stated they do not provide detailed reasons for denials.

Since then, I've completely reorganized my documentation and prepared a much more detailed portfolio explaining:

* My professional history

* Timeline of activity since April 2025

* Academic qualifications

* Transition from freelancer to LLC structure

* Source of income

* Tax compliance

* Remote work activities

* Business continuity before and after LLC incorporation

I'm now considering reapplying through Indonesia. Or which embassy would you recommend me? I need the visa to be processed as soon as possible

Has anyone experienced a DTV rejection from one embassy and later been approved by another embassy or consulate?

Do you think the LLC being relatively new could have been a concern, despite having over a year of prior professional activity and invoicing?

Any experiences or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Answer summary
A Spanish citizen recently had their Thailand DTV (Workcation) visa denied despite submitting comprehensive documentation, including proof of income and business operations. After a lack of detailed feedback on the denial, they are considering reapplying from Indonesia and are seeking insights from others who may have experienced similar situations. The discussion emphasizes the importance of applying for the correct visa type, having funds in a Thai bank account, and navigating the immigration process effectively.

Everything depends on where you live now and what type of visa you are currently holding. If you are working with a Visa Agency, then yes, current going rate is 60,000 (to convert from Tourist visa to Retirement). For 1 extension then you are good to go with the 800,000 in the bank and will not need the agency and can do on your own for 1,900 baht

Something is wrong because this is the scenario for a retirement Visa:

A Thailand retirement visa costs roughly 1,900 THB to 5,000 THB in government application fees, depending on the type. However, the true cost lies in the strict financial requirements: you must prove you have at least 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account (or an equivalent monthly pension of 65,000 THB).

RubyPhoenix7764 The 800,000 THB are not in a Thai bank, so in Immigration eyes you don't have it.

*** The requirement is for the deposit to be in a Thai bank.

*** The agent needs to take care to get a bank account opened for you on a touristic entry, which is against the existing law.

*** *** That is why you get the high price quotation

60,000 is a fair price for the "full package", regardless if you have your own funds or not.

*** Your BIG mistake is that you didn't apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa before you flew to Thailand.

That's all that really matters here.

OK a few questions firstly please:

What Visa are you currently on here?

When you say you have 800k in the bank, what bank a Thai Bank?

If both those answers are you have a 60 or 90 day Non O Tourist Visa and you have a Thai bank account already.

Then 60,000Bt is a pure rip off. If you go somewhere like Pattaya to do your first visa and use an agent there, it would be approx 20-25,000 Bt dropping to 15-18k each year on renewal of extension to stay.

Assuming your in Hua Hin or elsewhere doing it yourself is time consuming frustrating and hardwork. But not so much as handing over 60k to a scammer.

Best of luck.

I would spend 60,000thb on a trip to neighbouring country, apply for non-o retirement there. Come back with correct visa and do the rest accordingly. I.e. acquire resident cert, open mobile phone number, open bank account and deposit money in. Bet its cheaper than 60,000 and you get to travel !

Yes, that is true. On the other hand, even with an agent, you would likely have to re-enter to start the new visa. (Plus, you can never be 100% sure that will you get a genuine visa from an agent, even though most of the time you will.)

It’s probably correct all the way. Not all embassies/consulate issues all types of visas.

Your money need to be in Thailand bank account.

ED visas are issued in Laos embassy but you need to look before on that specific embassy what they do issue.

Your money need do need to have documents from a school first and that they are approved to get ED visa.

Ive read some before about high prices but if you apply for a visa from home first and then use an agent it should be around 12-16.000. This is using your own money in Thai bank account.

Learn from start how they do and then do it your self year 2.

Here’s what is required from Chon Buri immigration.

1900 baht to do yourself. Most difficult part was bank statement from Bangkok Bank.

3800 baht additional if you want multi entry visa

So the agent is charging you 54,300 baht for a few headaches gathering the documents, pictures and waiting in queue a couple times.

I did it myself in May over two days.

What does Vietnam and DTV have to do with this post?
Todd *********
Todd *********
@Larry ************
the agency is saving you placing getting a bank account on your own, saving you placing 800k in a thai bank account at less than 1%, driving to bank and immigration, standing in line at bank and immigration. And likely for this price, facilitating bank account and perhaps drivers license
Larry *************
Larry *************
Todd McGowan

Had a bank account

Used the 65k monthly deposit method

Takes 15 minutes to get to immigration office (did wait in a couple queues)

I have Thai motorbike and car driver’s license.

So the agent is making 54,300 baht as noted.

And by the agent “saving you” placing 800k in the bank, you’re breaking the law and get sucked into the agent loop.

I think that the cost is because you are starting inside of Thailand on a different visa to the one used for retirement, O-visa. If you get the O-visa outside of Thailand then when you arrive you can just pay the 1900 Baht at Immigration for the 12 month retirement extension plus about 200 or 300 at the bank for the documents but the 800,000 has to be in a Thai bank for 2 months prior to getting the extension.

The 60,000 THB quotation points to a touristic entry. He obviously did NOT enter on the "correct" visa. On a Non-Imm-O Visa obtained outside of Thailand he can get a bank account opened.

Greg Alexander full package normally includes the 800k, if he has that and just needs the account opened it should be cheaper

Greg Alexander that bit must have been edited out because I don't see that bit either.

James Mitchell did you miss this comment? . . . "the money is not in a Thai bank, so in Immigration eyes you don't have it.

The requirement is for it to be in a Thai bank.

That is why you get the high price quotation"

The agent needs to take care to get a bank account opened for him on a touristic entry, which is against the existing law.

60,000 is a fair price for the "full package", regardless if he has his own funds or not. His mistake is that he didn't apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa before he flew to Thailand. That's all that there is in this thread, that's all that really matters

James Mitchell "Greg Alexander full package normally includes the 800k, if he has that and just needs the account opened it should be cheaper" . . . . .I know. If he entered on a Non-Imm-O Visa, he can get a bank account opened either by himself, or by an agent for 5000 Baht, and the agent service to help him with the application to the extension can be had for something like 12.500 Baht . . . . . . . . the point here but is: he entered on a tourist visa or visa-exempt, he doesn't have a Thai bank account, yet, so for Immigration, the 800,000 THB equivalent on his home bank account are non-existent

James Mitchell yes, this is true, that's what I told him. IF he entered on a Non-Imm-O Visa, the first thing to do would be the Thai bank account opening. Could be swiftly done through an agent for 5000 Baht. Do we know if he entered on a Non-Imm-O visa, or did he do a touristic entry? The 60,000 THB quotation points to a tourisstic entry.
