Will I be required to show proof of onward travel when re-entering Thailand with a 30-day stamp after my SETV extension?

Can anyone advise please, I arrived in Thailand April on a SETV and extended it once, tomorrow I go to Penang for 5 days and then plan to return to Thailand on a 30 stamp and then extend it then return back to the UK before the extension ends on a flight in September which is already booked.

I’m wondering will they ask me for proof of onward flight out of Thailand before the 30 days ends because I don’t have one?

And will they accept my onward flight to UK before 60 days and explain I want to extend it one month.

Any help will be appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about re-entering Thailand on a 30-day stamp after traveling to Malaysia, following their previous SETV extension. They expressed concern over whether proof of onward travel would be required at immigration, particularly since they have a flight booked back to the UK beyond the 30-day period. Responses varied: while some suggested that proof is often required (especially from airlines), others believed that the risk of being asked at the border is low. It was emphasized that immigration officer discretion plays a significant role in such scenarios.

Sorry, but what you should prepare based on the law is clear. To enter Thailand as a tourist, you have to have proof of accommodation, proof of onward travel, and proof of funds. if you are asked to show them or not depends on the officer you would deal with at passport control. How you prepare those or how to do with your airline is your decision. You need to contact your airline for their latest policy.

Thank you for your help, everyone.

most airlines around would check your outbound trip ticket when you check in if you don't have a valid visa. And IF you are asked for 3 proof-of (accommodation, onward ticket, and funds of 20k thb cash for a tourist) at the passport control when you enter Thailand (not that often, but happens), and you cannot show the proof, you may be refused to enter.

perhaps I could arrive at the airport early and book a flight quickly off my phone if they was to ask?

depends on airlines. Is it possible or not? yes, possible. But some airlines might ask you to buy a 'specific' type of ticket. What's it is unknown.

If you're flying they generally ask for proof of onward travell at the airport check in. They want it to be within 30 days for visa exempt status because immigration does not have to grant an extension of stay. In Japan, they made me buy an extra flight before they allowed boarding to Bangkok.

Believe me when I say you won't be asked a single thing comin' across the land border into thailand from malaysia as far as proof of onward travel. It wasn't something they did pre-covid shit show and I'd bet dollars to durian they aren't doing it now.

well in that case, (AND especially if you've been here a while on covid extensions) you could be asked but as you said you'll have your onward travel in 60 days which should be fine as that is normally NOT an issue.

you shouldn't even be asked a single thing then when you stamp in. Report back and let us know though if you would

I hope you can understand that we can not tell what an unknown Immigration Officer at an unknow immigration booth at an unknown international airport in Thailand on an unknown date will do. For sure we can tell he will do his job, if that is with or without asking a question is his/her personal decision.
