I renewed my multiple entry O-A visa last December(on my own :(. I did not realize it was renewed as a single entry until I returned from a US visit last week. The O-A was closed when I left I was told. I was let in on a tourist Visa and have been told by a friend that means I will need to leave Thailand again and re-apply for my O-A visa. Seeking advice on how to resolve this without leaving Thailand.

You do not need to leave the country. Go to immigration to get a new non o.

Easy to do locally if you can fulfil the $$$ requirement ... and no insurance needed ๐Ÿ‘

Just apply for a non-o and extend much better no insurance required

ok dunno what you did last december but you didn't renew anything ๐Ÿ˜•

You either exited and re-entered the country to get a new year entry stamp OR you went to the immigration office paid 1900baht and got a year extension of stay <- if you did that you are correct extensions are sold with NO re-entry permit because you're already IN thailand when you get it and that means after you get the extension you would have had to buy a re-entry permit if you were going to exit/re-enter or your stamp would cancel when you left.

So let's just go under the premise that when you stamped out what ever you had was cancelled ๐Ÿ™

AND

I doubt you were let in on a "tourist visa" (seeing as you BUY a tourist visa from a thai consulate before you come ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ) so more likely than not (depending on your nationality) you would have gotten in on a 30 day visa exempt entry.

What you need to do is get on over to your immigration office and apply for FIRST a 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement <- by meeting the proof of funds and supplying the correct documents.

That costs 2000baht and will go under review at most offices for 2 weeks. Then you go back and get the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamp inked into your passport.

After that you wait until you have 30 days or less left on your new 90 day stamp AND the 800K baht in your thai bank account has been in it for 2 months and you go apply for a year extension for 1900baht. It will be issued that day.

THEN you BUY a re-entry permit so you can exit/re-enter the country and not cancel your stamp when you leave ๐Ÿ™‚

Kenneth Aw IF OP can meet the requirements to apply for in-country Non-O, he doesn't have to leave.

OK, that makes sense. Isn't a non-O a Thai spouse/family visa?

the O in a non-O visa means OTHER and it's issued for 'other reasons" like marriage to a thai, over 50 (retirement), raising half thai children, being married to a foreigner who legally works here, etc)

You need to start the whole process all over though from square one. GO to your immigration office and get the hand out listing the requirements to apply for the initial 90 day Non-O visa, AND ask them how many days you need left on your current 30 day visa exempt entry stamp to apply (most offices require a minimum of 15 days BUT some require 21. If you don't have that much time left on your current entry stamp apply for the one 30 day extension you're allowed on it for 1900baht to buy you the time to apply)
