My visa lady today told me that they may no longer allow dependents/visa followers for volunteer visas. Spouses and children would need to get their own. Has anyone heard about this? I sure hope it’s not true.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent changes to Thai immigration rules may no longer allow dependents on volunteer visas, as confirmed by several users in the community. Reports suggest a crackdown on volunteer visas, making them harder to obtain, with exceptions mainly in the religious sector. Some users have successfully secured dependent visas, but this appears challenging for new applications. The situation is fluid, with existing visa holders reporting better chances for extensions, especially if affiliated with well-vetted organizations.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I have asked around a bit more about this and it seems that yes, for new visas (given by an embassy/consulate overseas), you may indeed encounter this issue. Thankfully I’ve already got my visa and am just looking to extend it. If your foundation is well vetted and above board, I’ve been told extending, even with followers, should be ok. I’m still wary, though.
extension of stay in Thailand. Outside Thailand no chance for children at this time.

Volunteer Visas as a whole are nearly impossible to get now.
The exception seems to be in the religious sector as it seems to be business as usual.
Only very established and vetted volunteer programs are being successful.
The "I Volunteer in Chonburi and live in Phuket" Visa are done (for now anyway).
Dependant visas in these situations are extremely difficult or even impossible for some.
As to other Visas w/ agents, there is currently a slow down on the ability to get things done.
IF an applicant qualifies without any "fixing" needed , there is no problem to obtain a visa or extension by an agent or by simply doing it themselves.
To use a North American term,
There is "heat" on right now.

It’s true! It’s caused some big headaches for our visas. We had the law change the day before we applied back in September.
We have a teammate who miraculously got his wife and three kids on as dependents in October. It was from the DC embassy in the States via online. Best of luck!

They've pretty much stopped volunteer visas altogether. Easily the most abused type of visa there is. A big crackdown on both volunteer and education visas the last few months. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this is true.
