How can I convert my dependent visa to a longer stay in Thailand?

Hey all, looking for a little insight. My husband is working in Thailand with the appropriate visa and a valid work permit. My kids & I recently obtained our 90-day dependent visas in Vientiane. We now need to convert them to multiple-entry, longer stay depdendent visas at the Chiang Mai office.

1. My husband’s current work permit is valid through June 30, 2020. However, his contract with his employer states that he will be working for them through June 30, 2021, and we intend to stay that long. Am I right to assume that they will only issue dependent visas to us through June 30, 2020? I often hear it referred to as a “one-year” dependent visa, but they won’t give us a full year (yet)?

(1a. If, for some reason, we were eligible for full year visas, my 3-year-old daughter only has 17 months left on her passport, not 18. Would this be a problem?)

2. Every day, my husband goes to work and my kids go to school. I’m bored. I would like to at least volunteer someplace. I’ve been given conflicting information about whether a non-imm O dependent visa is sufficient for legally volunteering. Is it? If not, what would the process be? Because I might as well try to do that instead.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on converting their 90-day dependent visas to longer, multiple-entry dependent visas for themselves and their children while their husband works in Thailand. They question whether the visas can be issued for a full year, given their husband's current work permit validity until June 30, 2020. They also ask if their daughter's passport validity (17 months left) would be an issue. Additionally, the user is curious about the legality of volunteering with a non-immigrant O dependent visa and what steps to take if it's not allowed.

You have to check with the Ministry of Labor in your area if you can get a Work Permit to work for a volunteer organization using this visa or Extension of Stay. The volunteer organization will help you with the applications.

Thank you for all your information.

For your daughter, she will get the permitted up to date same as her father or expiry date of the passport, which ever comes first

Okay, If you husband already visited the Immigration Office and got an Extension of Stay based on working inside Thailand, you can apply for an Extension of Stay based on being his dependent and you will get the same permitted up to date as he has in his passport

I understand. Ok, thank you again.

Extension of Stay stamp looks like this example but in your case without the Thai Wife stamped next to it

When you entered Thailand with this visa, the visa itself is stamped used and you got a new stamp with Admitted until ../../.. Should be 90 days period starting as day of entry as day number 1. You visit Immigration Office and apply to extend this period to match your husbands permitted to stay

Sorry for this rather basic question, but what exactly is an Extension of Stay? I thought we’d be issued an entirely new visa. Are you saying we’ll keep the visa we have, but get some sort of stamp that will allow us to stay beyond the 90-day visa’s expiration?

You got a 90 day Visa and your daughter has 17 months left? I not understand.

Sorry. Typo. I meant her passport. I fixed it above already.
