Can anyone explain why my Thai tourist visa was cancelled instead of rejected?
I’d really appreciate any insights or similar experiences. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The cancellation of a Thai tourist visa rather than a rejection is commonly attributed to errors in the application, such as incorrect personal information. Many commenters noted that minor data entry mistakes, such as discrepancies in names or dates, can lead to cancellation. Unlike rejection, which suggests a more serious issue, cancellation often implies unintentional errors. It is advised for individuals to double-check their applications and consider contacting the embassy for clarification.
100% if it was cancelled (not rejected) it was due to a data entry error..
You either typed in something wrong or you didn't check when you scanned the data page of your passport and it auto filled the page and there was a mistake on that.
Many MANY hundreds of people have had their applications canceled because of data entry errors..
May be have something wrong in documents which you send on 18 th dec. If bio data not correct they will cancel in 1 or 2 days after submit application. It is not rejected this is cancel. But may be same .
Would be helpful to know nationality and OP visa history. I find it strange that OP applied visa in Indonesia and traveled to Laos in the meantime. An unusual route . If need Tourist visa you can apply in Laos. However if OP was previously denied entry a Tourist visa is not really helpful. A bit more information would be appreciated. Thank you
Check your application 100 times until your sure it's correct. Use this gro search function to see others mistakes. Send a carefully worded email explaining how u really want to get your application submitted correctly and provide a Thai translation.
Finally a thread where most of the answers are correct. All your information isn’t matching. If you have a middle name it has to be on all the paperwork. And it has to be the exact name.
Cancelled means there were some errors in your submitted information. Check carefully and apply again. You can also contact the embassy and possibly ask for the reason before you apply again.
Cause a lot of westerners are trying to go from visa except to a tourist. The highly likely thing you got cancelled is because they want people's with a long term visa, not a short term. That's why they're trying to cut back.It really only goes to people who are like families and et
Cancellation is usually caused by unintentional errors or non-serious issues. Rejection is when something is fishy about the submitted documents or you are not qualified for that type of visa.
Anonymous participant if you previously had a work permit but didn’t cancel/terminate it formally/officially , I’d reccomend doing that before trying to re-apply.
As trying to apply for a visa whilst still on a visa would likely cause issues.
From experience, it’s easier to cancel the visa from within Thailand at immigration in person, however if you’ve already left the country - maybe reach out to Thai embassy closest to your current location and ask if they can cancel it for you
DTV_Noob Embassy can only cancel a visa if its an actual visa, most people confused extension of stay 'permits' for visa. An extension of stay can only be cancelled in Thailand at an immigration office.
Cancelled normally means something was writen incorrectly on your application, i.e. middle name, date of birth, place of birth, etc. It can be even a single letter or number, that's an assured cancelation.
Anonymous participant When you submit the data page of your passport you need to make sure that the information you manually entered did not change. Review your application before hitting submit with a real careful eye. Also very hard to say why without more info and past visa or exempt history.
