What is the application process for the DTV visa at the Thai Embassy in Singapore?

Applied for DTV (Remote Worker) through the Thai Embassy in Singapore in early July.

Day 1 - Submitted application

Day 3 - Embassy asked for more documents including:

- Employer's updated ACRA within the last 3 months (previous version was an old ACRA document)

- Employer's letter to be addressed to Thai Embassy, Singapore specifically stating that I was allowed to work in Thailand. (previous letter submitted was addressed to "to whom it may concern", and "allowed to work anywhere in the world"

- Detailed bank statements (previously I submitted only the first page)

- Screenshot of my latest bank balance AFTER the 3 months of bank statements

- Proof of accomodation (they mentioned specifically AirBnB not allowed)

Day 6 - I only noticed the request on Day 5 and submitted everything they requested for on Day 6

Day 14 - Approved

Data Points:

- I had between SGD20k to SGD30k in the bank for the entire period of 3 months

- I still kept the minimum balance in there after submiting documents, hence my screenshot satisfied that additional criteria

- My salary is about SGD10,000, and I have been with the company for 3 years

Some thoughts: SG Thai Embassy is definitely pretty strict. I feel like they are trying to poke and find holes in what I thought was an honest and straightforward application. But otherwise, happy to have this approved.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user successfully applied for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) through the Thai Embassy in Singapore in July. The process involved submitting additional documents after the initial application, including updated employer documentation and proof of accommodation. The application was approved within two weeks, although the user noted the embassy's strict requirements and scrutiny. Several comments from others discussed the challenges faced by applicants, particularly Singaporeans, and shared experiences regarding the visa application process.

Hello there, could you advise the name that you input in the application? As we Singaporean, our passport does not indicate surname and given name. Do you put your surname in the surname/family name column and the name in the given name column?

Or you put your full name including the surname in the given given name column in the application form?

Do you have any Hanyu pinyi? Do you also key in or just ignore it?

Thanks

Anonymous participant 537 I don't have a hanyu pinyin name, so I didn't face that issue. I suggest you pay a visit to the Thai embassy or send them and email to ask for guidance on this. Unfortunately you belong to that batch of Singaporeans who were affected by the dumb policy by the government in the 1980s.

Welcome to DTV family

I heard from a couple of Singaporeans it is much easier applying elsewhere than their own country. Can fully see why by your post but you got your DTV which is what matter the most.

Why do you think no Airbnb?
Andi ***********
Anonymous participant 368 Airbnb is widespread in Thailand but strictly speaking only allowed for stays of a month or in places licensed for short stays.

@Andi **********
but as a tourist wouldn't you book these? They would be perfect for a short term stay on the DTV?
Andi ***********
Anonymous participant 368 yes they are perfect for short stays and many tourists do use them inc DTVERS. There are fully licensed Airbnbs which are perfectly fine to stay in but many are not fully licensed and there are issues with noisy airbnbers etc which has led to many buildings now with no short stay/Airbnb signs.

Congrats - Singapore Thai Embassy are known for being sticklers on all visa types. Years ago we wanted Multi-Entry B Visas as we worked at the regional HQ of a company in Singapore but went to Thailand often. They would only issue single B's. We just used the Visa Exempt for 99% who did not need a visa for Thailand.

Are you a Singapore citizen or a long term pass holder?

Singapore citizen, so I was quite surprised at the additional scrutiny from them.

Sticklers but they can't even get their basic information right. Some parts of their website still indicates a 2 month statement for the SGD20,000, but in truth it is 3 months.

I have dealt with this embassy quite a bit, not impressed although I must say they have improved a lot in recent years.

Anonymous participant As we both said - they are sticklers. I went there for my "B" a few years ago. Great service if all your T's crossed and I's dotted. There used to be stories about a lady who worked in the visa section over 20 years ago. She was notorious - must be long retired now but she was a Dragon :-)
