Why is the DTV workstation in Malaysia asking for excessive documentation and proof of residence?

Hello! I've applied to DTV "workstation" in Malaysia, I have a fully remote job, so I thought it'd be straightforward but they are requesting so many documents.

I don't get why need the "proof of prolonged residence" for AT LEAST 6 MONTHS, but in any case, I rent an apartment together with a friend for the whole year as it's worth it even if not using it all year, would that work or weaken my application?

Also, I've got requested to provide job contract and company registration certified by the embassy in my home country, is this normal? They have payslips, bank statements and original contract already...why would need even more? Am I being rejected? Thanks!
Answer summary
The individual applying for the DTV workstation in Malaysia is finding the document requirements unexpectedly extensive, including proof of prolonged residence for six months and additional certification of job contracts and company registration. They are concerned whether providing an apartment rental as proof of residence will suffice and if the extra requests indicate a likelihood of application rejection. The community responds with insights about local consular practices, suggesting that such stringent requests are common in Malaysia and advising the applicant on possible next steps if rejected.

Yeah, I see now...I don't mind as I can provide everything with a bit of effort, but what concerns me is to do all the paperwork, then still be rejected for some reason.

Thank you everyone for your responses. Honestly, since I have all what’s required, I just applied where I am at the moment, I didn’t think it’ll be an issue, but I should have checked this group before and avoid Malaysia embassy…

Considering this, if I’d get rejected, it’s wise to try applying in another embassy like Hanoi afterwards? Or would they “mark” my passport and then I’ll be rejected again?

It's workcation, not workstation, as the second has a total different meaning.

As for that stupid requirement, only a very few embassies, notably Malaysia, have it. You should have applied elsewhere.

Yeah, right, I just wrote it quickly 😅 If got rejected, do you know if that could affect getting approved in other embassies later? Is there any info about this somewhere?

Fran Thai I don't think a rejection in an embassy would affect the application at another embassy especially when the reason is embassy-specific, and not because you didn't fulfill the core common requirments (having a remote job, having the 500K equivalent in a bank account).

Are you new to this group? It has been know here for a while that it's best to avoid the embassy in Malaysia.

Yes, you are right. New to the group. I did my research using chatgpt and according to it, it was the best to apply. Lesson learned.

If your contract doesn't explicit state that you can work remotely FROM Thailand you should get a side letter from your company stating you can. If it also states you won't work with any Thai entities or clients inside Thailand so much the better

I don't get it, my colleague working in the same company got it straight away. My contract says that I can work anywhere.

Fran Thai and where did they apply? It's a common requirement particularly in nearby consulates

You could have popped in Hanoi, they're far more reasonable.

I just did my research with chatgpt, these days I use it for everything, but I've just learn the lesson as according to it, KL was one of the easiest places. If they deny it, I can try in Hanoi (paying again...) but my concern is, would they communicate among them and then it'll be also hard to get there as they have already flag me?

Fran Thai Other people have gotten their visas the second time round. I would use an agent too.

Fran Thai quick search on this group could have saved you a headache. KL is notorious for taking ages. It'll be on their record, if you get rejected.

The consular offices in Malaysia are known for being a bit extra in what they require.

Regarding the apartment rental, it should work but it’ll depend who the contract is under. Sometimes the easiest solution is to book a hotel that is don’t pay until X day and is fully refundable just to get the confirmation PDF.

UnforgettableRambutan8343 It's on my name and my friend. I can do the hotel booking too, though I guess I have to decide what's best
