What is the process and experience of obtaining a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) approval in Malaysia?

Hi Guys,

Just got DTV approval (workcation) from the KL Malaysia Embassy today. 🎉

Honestly, the process was a nightmare.

I originally planned to apply in Vietnam, but since I’m staying in Malaysia for a month, I decided to take the risk and apply here instead.

Bank requirement: My 3-month statement didn’t show 500k THB consistently. I only had 1 month with over 600k THB. However, my account is very active, with deposits/spending.

Certified statement issue: The embassy requested a certified bank statement. Since Thai banks don’t provide this online and I couldn’t physically return to Thailand, I submitted what I had. As a backup, I requested a bank reference letter.

Employment contract: They required an embassy-authenticated employment contract. Instead, I provided my remote-work employment contract signed via DocuSign, along with the Singapore business profile of the company I work for.

Proof of Income issue: My income is in stable fiat, not shown directly in the Thai account. I could only show conversions into THB. So I attached my Binance statement to support this.

Proof of residence: I submitted my Thai condo contract, which is still valid, as evidence since I’ve been living in Thailand.

Here’s a quick breakdown of my experience:

The timeline was 15 business days, excluding 2 embassy holidays during the process.

Submitted: Aug 26 (Tue)

First document request: Aug 29 (Fri)

• Full passport (all pages, incl. empty)

• Malaysia entry stamp/PR pass

• Job explanation + relation to DTV/digital nomad

• Portfolio or job presentation

• Company registration/business license (embassy authenticated)

• Employment contract/certificate (embassy authenticated)

• Salary slips (last 6 months)

• Personal bank statement (3 months, 500k THB, certified)

• Proof of residence in Thailand (6 months+, lease, etc.)

Additional document request: Sept 3 (Wed)

• Financial proof (500k THB balance) → highlight salary income in statement

• Other income sources?

Additional question: Sept 10 (Wed)

• Why apply in KL instead of Singapore?

Approved: Sept 17 (Wed) ✅

I hope this helps anyone who is planning to apply in Malaysia. Let me know if you have any questions!
