TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement for the 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account for a Non-O visa extension varies. Some users assert that proof of international transfer is necessary primarily when applying for a 90-day Non-O visa from another visa type within Thailand. However, if you obtained a 90-day Non-O visa before arriving, you can open a Thai bank account, deposit the funds without needing to show they came from abroad. Subsequent extensions may have different rules depending on the applicant's situation and the type of visa they entered Thailand with.

It's a good question. Why would they if it was in country or abroad. This is what what's when these official yet together and drink Thai whisky. They look to make up the most stupid shit. Why is being married has a lower amount then a single retirement. Last time I checked it cost more to support 2 then one. Seasonongbtjr funds should be the same across the board. And absurd reason some will give it's for emergency such as medical. Then why not make it mandatory to have health insurance. Do you think someone apply from home country is more likely to get sick then a non o. A bunch of ficking idiots stand around a just make up stupid shit as it goes. There is no rational to any of it. Advantage to Vietnam and Malaysia. Make it simple and people will come.

Even for extension of stay they check to see if money is transferred from overseas

Eddie H Porat no, they don't. . . . . . .Unless you apply for the initial 90-days Non-Imm-O visa inside Thailand. This application requires proof of overseas transfer. If you entered on a Non-Imm-O Visa, for the application to the 1-year stay permit extension, you do not need such a proof

Eddie H Porat you must be confusing something. If you use the monthly transfer proof, then YES, the money must come from abroad. But not if you use the 800,000 THB deposit in your Thai bank account, and DEFINITELY NOT after a few years

Extension no, initial 90 day visa if converting from a different visa or exemption in Thailand, yes.

People confuse the requirements to apply for a 90 day Non-O visa inside Thailand and the requirements to apply for an extension of stay. A problem with them both wrongly being referred to as a visa by many I suspect

It depends on the kind of process you use to obtain the 1-year Extension of the Stay Permit based on Retirement

*** if you enter on a 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa which you obtained outside of Thailand, open a Thai bank account on this visa and transfer a minimum of 800,000 THB onto it, you do not need to prove that the funds came from abroad

*** if you enter on a Tourist Visa and apply for the “change of visa type” from the touristic entry to an initial 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa on Immigration, you need to prove that the funds came from abroad

As one cannot get a bank account opened on a touristic entry – unless using an agent – this method requires an already existing Thai bank account (when using an agent, the origin of your own funds is irrelevant anyways)

Ian Carman for the application to the 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa, you can show money in any bank account anywhere in the World as long as you prove it is in your sole name. For the application to the 1-year Extension on Immigration inside Thailand, the money must be in your Thai bank account, and on the day of your application you need proof that the money has been in the account for a minimum of 2 months. You do NOT need to prove it came from abroad if you entered on a 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa which you obtained outside of Thailand

Cyril Ranchod Fact is, you can get a Thai bank account opened on ANY Non-Imm visaclass

However, what we get reported is, most bank staff have no idea what to do if the applicant is a foreigner. They will dream up random requirements so they avoid to tell you they don’t know. It’s all about “face saving”

That’s why I suggest before you try that by yourself endlessly without getting any results, let an agent help you.

Moving to a more touristic area also helps -so you should plan to set up residence in Pattaya for a few days

It should cost around 5000 THB to get a bank account opened by an agent, at least that's the price in Pattaya. And they will guarantee the success.

The most basic requirements from banks are:

*** a printed-out Non-Imm-O Visa Type or the Extension of the Stay permit out of it

*** a Thai mobile phone number with a SIM-card registered in the name of the account applicant (receipt from the phone shop)

*** a certificate of residence from Immigration, which specifically states that they kindly ask the bank to open an account for you. You can pick up if you are properly registered per TM30 in your accommodation

What you DON’T NEED but maybe can get asked for:

***a yellow housebook

*** a work permit

*** a marriage certificate

*** the birth certificate of your grandmother along with the lenght of her ankle hair

*** your drivers licence

*** a health insurance

***they could ask you if you shower twice a day. Who knows?

What you CAN’T DO:

*** there is no bank account opening possible for people on touristic visa (DTV included) or visa-exempt entries

Good Luck, go ahead, book an agent service, and by the evening you will have a Thai bank account

The following experience was posted a while ago and it confirms exactly what I wrote above!

“Kalasim immigration

Arrived in Thailand 5 days ago, under a Non O visa.

I’m from the UK. Public holiday in Thailand, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Immigration reopened today Monday morning. I needed a TM30, and Certificate of Residency so I could open a bank account.

I got there at 8.50am, 10 minutes before it opened as I knew it would be busy. I live with my Thai girlfriend in our (hers) house, so difficult to do the TM30 online as not a business or hotel.

She came with me, I was one of the first in the queue all sorted in 20 minutes. The cost was 500 baht. Left with the TM30 stapled to my passport and my certificate of Residency in an envelope.

Could not have been easier, and lovely people.

I then went to get a new SIM card from the AIS shop, then opened a bank account with Kasikorn Bank.

All sorted in 4 hours 😀

Documents required:

***TM30 & Certificate of Residency.

***Passport

***E visa printed copy

***Passport size photo

***My girlfriend’s ID card.

***My girlfriend’s house book.

***Cost 500 baht.

***New sim for my phone.

(I have my own phone number as an e-sim)

Passport only.

Cost, SIM card 100 baht, and 300 Baht a month for a good data plan.

Opening a bank account (Kasikorn Bank):

Passport

Certificate of Residency

Phone with new Sim (so they can upload the app and open the account)

Usual bank questions, home address in UK, what you salary was, new phone number, ect.

Cost was 300 baht. (but I gave 3000 baht cash to put in)

The whole process took 4 hours.

I know I was probably lucky with my timing.

And I know all provinces are different.

And I know it depends on the person.

All that worry for nothing.

Now I wait for 60 days for my funds to season, and apply for my extension.

I hope all who are trying find it as easy as I did.

Cyril Ranchod that 800K, or proof of income - for the visa application you can use your original UK income/pension statements. However for the application to the 1-year extension inside Thailand, you will definitely need the 800,000 THB in your Thai bank account at least for the first year, because the UK embassy does not issue any income affidavits

Mario De Mey if your embassy in Bangkok still issues the income affidavit, you are free to use it on Immigration as financial proof. Must be a minimum of 65,000 THB, and some Immigrations also want to see that you got a Thai bank account and transfer "some" money into it

And that is how, unless you have a bank account and 800K THB in it from before, most people do their 1 year extension, from within Thailand.

Enter Thai on 90 days Non O visa, open bank account, transfer money to season for 2 months and apply for 1 year extension of stay from within Thailand. That is where international transfer flag comes into place. Subsequent extensions do not require that (say, money from 800K withdrawn down to 400K and topped up back to 800K) does not have to show as international transfer.

Just my understanding from 1000s of posts here.

You dont need to prove an international transfer for the initial 800k if entering on a non-o, even if you only open a bank account on entering with the non-o.

Jim Davis you 1.get the Non-O before arriving, using funds in own bank. 2.Arrive. 3.You open thai bank account. 4. Get 12 months extension of stay That's basically it.

Probably, to eliminate shark loaners while visa agencies have their way around it.
