Why did the immigration office instruct us to return two weeks before our stamp expires?

Hello,

Would anyone know the reason why the immigration office would have told us to go back there two weeks before this date please?

Our school said we only need to go back on the 5th. Unfortunately we have had some miscommunication before so I would just like to prevent any unnecessary mishaps.

I will give you a bit more information. This is our (me and my husband's) first time in Thailand. After exhausting our tourist exemption we did one boarder trip and (with the help of our employer) got all our paperwork ready. When it was done we went back to the immigration office in Bangkok to process for our non B visa. Long story, we were one day to late and then we first had to extend our tourist visa again to have enough time to process our papers.

After getting another extension, we immediately went back to again apply for the NonB. Then the two weeks went by and we recieved this stamp. My husband and I both remember the officer at the immigration telling us to return 2 weeks before the stamp expires. The school however insists that this is not necessary. I am more than willing to except that we didn't understand correctly but I just want to make absolutely sure.

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on conflicting advice regarding when to return to the immigration office in Thailand. They were told by an immigration officer to return two weeks before their non-B visa stamp expires, but their school advised that it is only necessary to return on the expiration date. The user has experienced prior miscommunication during their visa processes and wishes to avoid future issues.

Do what the immigration officer said rather than rely on your school’s advice, better safe than sorry.

not necessarily correct and I believe 100% there was a "lost in translation" event that took place.

That's a bangkok stamp and in Bangkok Non-Immigrant visas are issued by counter C-1, <- that's where they applied for 2000baht and that's where they went back to get the Non-B and new 90 day stamp inked in 2 weeks later.

However in Bangkok EXTENSIONS based on employment (as a teacher seeing as they said their school & the school name is written on the stamp in thai) are issued at Counter N-1 <- totally different section

As I said in Bangkok you can apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less <- meaning right up to the last day of that stamp if you want to (although that is not recommended in case you are a document short 😮 )

Hopefully their school will get the documentation WAY before the dates either of us mentioned and they can just go apply when they have plenty of time left on their stamp

They won't lose any days because the extension is added to the current expiration date they have now

there's a LOT of unnecessary info in your post so lets try to weed it out

what you have is a Non-B 90 day admitted until stamp. I'll bet on the other page of the passport (to the left) is the Non-B VISA stamped in by section C-1 at Chaengwattana immigrations 😉

I think you misheard what the officer said and that two weeks was when you applied for the Non-B and then it went under review and you went back to get it stamped in 2 weeks later

You need to get documentation from your school and go back to the immigration office (to counter N) to get a year extension BEFORE that stamp expires (the 5th of Dec)

In Bangkok you can apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp meaning you could have applied any time after Oct 21st once you get the documents from your school you can go apply for your year extension. As soon as they have all the documents GO get the extension, no need to wait until the last day like the school said.
