Why can't DTV holders open new bank accounts in Thailand?

ORIGINAL POSTER
FYI.... yesterday I went to Bangkok Bank to break one of my term deposits (I had 2), only to find out that they have been frozen on renewal due to "visa issues". I had to close both of them and transfer the money to my savings account. The lady told me that with a DTV I can't open any new account, including term deposits. I asked her about my savings account, she said it is ok, "opened long time ago". I opened the account in 2018 with retirement O-A visa.

I know some of the staff there personally, not sure if that kept my account open😃

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the difficulties faced by an individual with a DTV visa in maintaining bank accounts in Thailand. The user encountered issues when trying to break a term deposit at Bangkok Bank, which was frozen due to visa-related problems. The comments highlight that accounts opened before the introduction of stringent banking regulations related to DTV visas remain valid, though new accounts are difficult to open under the current visa restrictions.

that's the main reason I don't even try. With my DTV, I could dress up nicely, speak Thai and BEG them to open an account for me. But if they can freeze at any moment. What's the point?

Its been proven multiple times by members of this group as well as personal experience that accounts opened pre-dtv and scam scandals/mule accounts are still valid and can be renewed indefinitely regardless of your current visa (!!) unless you are specifically targeted due to suspicious transactions. We are just among the lucky ones who got them before it became nearly impossible

Well, DTVers not allowed to use the Thai banking system isn't new.
