TLDR : Answer Summary
The post expresses frustration about non-Hong Kong residents being turned away from the Thai consulate in Hong Kong. Comments indicate confusion and concern regarding the visa process, specifically about obtaining a SETV (Single Entry Tourist Visa) and transitioning to a work permit in Bangkok.

So they’re only willing to grant me a SETV and are telling me that be changing to a work permit in Bangkok. I have not accepted this yet as the left hand does not know what the right hands doing. I want to know for sure before I accept can this be done?

they have been known to be the only consulate/ Embassy in the region to give non b visas without the wp3 letter.

They must of went over the quota and why they now are being more strict and giving to only Hong Kong residents.

Tbh I’m not flying anywhere else and spending more money, as the same thing could easily repeat itself. I’ve never encountered such incompetence in all my puff.

damn that sucks, but it is possible to change setv to work permit, takes up to a month though, however as you know non b to wp is a lot faster, you could try another consulate or embassy, apparently Saigon is pretty quick

of course mate, do what I’m told. Left with a setv and had to fight for it. Same story with every other person too, although many just walked off empty handed. I suggested they update their website to reflect this, and train all their staff so they aren’t giving out wrong info over the phone; “we don’t have to do anything!!!” What a farce!

You are following normal procedure. You are supposed to get your non b from a consulate outside Thailand. I've done this many times in laos, uk, and Malaysia.

Did your work specifically state the Hong Kong office on your application?

You have to go to which ever one they write on the papers.

I know US consulates generally only accept US citizens, but that’s clearly stated on the website. I’ve written my begging letter and now have to wait for “however long it takes.” Trying to remain calm while being spoken down to like some piece of shit is a true test of my character 😂

I have heard before that some embassies will not issue and insist that you return to your home country, which is IMO frankly ridiculous.

yes. I’m here for a non immigrant B. Website does not state HK resident only and my employer called last week to verify documents needed and was not told. I’ve queued again stating all this and they’ve asked me to write a letter for their supervisor to look over. Getting permanent residency for the USA was a breeze compared to this.
