TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around finding affordable travel insurance for a 120-day trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos, particularly for UK citizens with pre-existing medical conditions. Participants share various insurance providers such as Bupa, Saga, and international options like Allianz and Cigna. They suggest comparing offers, exploring free insurance options through credit cards, and considering specific packages tailored for travelers over 70. The community emphasizes the importance of disclosing medical history and understanding coverage limitations for pre-existing conditions.

If you have had medical issue in the pass most of the insurance won’t pay if you have a claim ,they will say that you have a preexisting medical condition and will deny your claim in most cases .They will investigate your medical history and deny your claim .This why insurance company are rich .I have the same problem that you have I am 70 with a few medical issue so extremely expensive to get n insurance so in the past 2yeare I took a new company with no cost it is call the FUCK IT .So far so good I avoids risky activity ,like renting a scooter ,scuba diving or getting a prostitute ext ext ,and I eat well exercise and avoid alcohol and so far so good .No cost and with the money I save if I need medical Care I will either come back home fast or pay for private medical care .

Open a Nationwide Flex plus account for £13 per month and get travel insurance for free upto 30 days. To extend for upto 120 days you would need to pay an additional charge, but when compared to the cost of a seperate travel insurance policy it worked out significantly cheaper for me. Existing mediacl issues can also be included, but at an extra cost - of course.

it's going up in December to £15 but still good value if you are going on 2 or three shorter trips in a year , next year my wife and me are doing Thailand 22 days ,Greece 10 days ,and lanzarote 7 days ,and we are over 60 so it should cover all 3 trips

we have flex plus account it wasn't cheaper for a 120day extension for me Quote £2450 as against 50% of that with saga, for 2 adults with minimal health issues but both in our late 70s. Last year for 180 days was £480 only difference this year 1 year older, but nationwide changed there insurance provider. No longer gives 180 days

Even for the 30 days you need a medical screening the cost is an extra £170 for us.

Insurance costs have gone through the roof this year

I have taken it out for 120 days this year (I leave uk in 2 weeks) and it cost me less than £200. I think the issue is your age. I am 52 years old

I have found a decent one with aviva but for a max of 90 days.

As I’m planning on travelling for 120 days do you think it’s possible to get 90 days (multi trip travel) but then add 30 days with a company that does nomad or single trip cover? Or would that 30 day single trip also be expensive?

I am looking for similar. Single-trip policies are very expensive. I found an annual policy with LV that would cover 90 days but if you include flights my trip would be 92. They refused. This means only single-trip possible and the cheapest quotes I have found for 92 days are around £300.

Word of caution, before you buy TI think about what you're insuring, you'll be very surprised to learn that a lot of the things you're insuring are not covered, 20% devaluation per year, so if they're more than 5 years old you have no claim, eg; your suitcase, your laptop, your camera, your phone, etc etc, I'm speaking from experience, I recently had my suitcase damaged beyond repair, and all the valuable items in it we're not covered due to this fact, read the fine print !

That is incorrect.... I have a number of pre existing conditions and always manage to receive adequate cover.... every case is measured on a case by case basis so to say "any insurance will not cover pre existing conditions "is not factual !

I am in remission from cancer and the Insurance companies have been very kind to me... transparency is the key .... again my husband has had issues and once again a few bucks more... Hospitals have never charged crazy prices for us... I am a health professional and if an Insurance company agrees to a certain hospital and treatment the hospital charges are agreed beforehand!

If I have been taken sick in Thailand, our Insurance company in Australia have an accepted rate of charges and paid out without a problem. The same applied when I lived in Europe and holidayed abroad... The only problem I have ever had in Thailand was during the Tsunami when the Insurance companies deemed it an act of god!

It would cost £404 for 90 but goes up to £1037 for 120 days.

I think that that is standard. I pay in the UK £450+ for Travel Annual Insurance with ore-existing conditions, which only covers 60 days in each travel period. I have been told by AXA staff in Bangkok that for certain pre-existing conditions such as a previous Heart Attack Health Insurance, is impossible to find.

i have more experience with Thai hospitals than you will ever have. I paid over £50,000 a few years back for a number of operations my fiancee needed after a car crash. The point about insurance is it doesn't matter what the hospitals charge, the insurance covers it. Just accept you were incorrect, you"ve had half a dozen goes at defending your postion and you are STILL wrong. Give it up already 😏

Just Google 'compare the market.com'

Enter your pre-existing conditions, mine were high blood pressure, high cholesterol and it will give you a quote.

Mine was with virgin and it was around £100 cover for a year going to Thailand.
