Finally arrived into Chumpae after sandbox in phukhet. Next day I went to Khon Kaen to get 30 day extension as I arrived on exempt cert. Anyway got another 30 added due to covid so can stay to March 4th, i was going to apply for retirement visa because I didn’t think I would have time to sort wedding we planned, is it better I go marriage visa now to save money as I was going to pay agency or get marriage visa as I have time now. It’s not about the money and we have a 5 year relationship but I don’t want to pay retirement visa cost if the marriage visa will override that visa’, advice on visa not on marriage thanks. 🙏🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual seeks advice on whether to apply for a marriage visa or a retirement visa in Thailand, considering their current visa extension and plans for marriage. They have received a 30-day extension due to arriving on a visa exemption and are contemplating the cost-effectiveness of applying for a marriage visa now since they have more time to organize their wedding, rather than paying for a retirement visa.

Just an FYI your extension had nothing to do with Covid. Visa exempt is eligible for a 30 day extension so that's what you received.

You need apply for non-o 90 day visa. Too do that need to transfer wire money to bank account. Then after 2 months can apply 1 y extension retirement. Now you have no visa. Can't do retirement extension without.

thanks for info, arrived 6th on 30 day exempt visa stay to 6th Jan extended that for another 30days to Feb 6th, 30 extra given for covid, immigration said, not really worried what’s it for just took it, gives around 90 days on my original 30 day exempt visa although of course it cost 1900bht for 1st extension👍👍🙏🙏🙏

If you want to save money don’t use an agent. I did my “retirement visa“ myself. Was easy peasy. I think an extension based on retirement (retirement visa) is a lot easier than a marriage visa. If you go the marriage visa route. You need photos of you and your partner. Immigration will visit the house. Talk to neighbours etc. An extension based on retirement is less complicated. Fill out the application. Use the check list to make sure all documents are in order. I did mine in Kohn Kean. It took about 45 minutes.

we have photos going back 5 years, we live in a house I brought 3 years ago and have a car on finance past 3 years, my own bank account 4 years and only farang in village so should not be hassle to prove, aiming to get married January, apart from personal expenses for wedding what’s cost of marriage visa after we’re married? TIA
