Hii all,

I'm going backpacking and studying in Thailand, first 10 weeks backpacking and then 10 weeks of study in Bangkok.

My university can provide the documents for the student Visa. Normally you have to do this beforehand, but I'm already in Thailand when I start studying. What should I do and which visa should I get? I'm from the Netherlands

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual plans to backpack for 10 weeks and then study in Bangkok for another 10 weeks. They have a university that can provide documentation for a student visa but will be in Thailand before their studies start. Suggestions include starting with a 60-day tourist visa, which is extendable, and then potentially converting it to an Education (ED) visa once in Thailand. It is also advised to contact the university early to ensure all necessary paperwork is in order for the visa conversion.

Get a 60 day tourist visa to come in on, and do your traveling around, but be sure you make personal contact with the university you will be studying at at least a month before you start school so they can get all the paperwork together that you will need for your ED visa. It usually takes a few weeks for them to get everything together, and the approval back from the education ministry. To do this you will use the immigration office in the district your university is in. The borders are back open now so a jaunt over to Vientiane and the Thai embassy to get your ED visa could save you about bt

of that mentioned bt20k fee to change it in-country. The return to Thailand would simply be the same, but new, ThaiPass you originally entered on, with the covid insurance and your vaccination records. It will take two days to complete. You turn in your application and documents, then the next day you pick up your new ED visa in your passport. Just make absolutely sure you physically contact the school after you get here, and get your education fees all paid. That is very important, or you won't get your ED visa on time.

You can study on a tourist visa or whatever you're on now. You can get an ED visa in country, normally there's a $20k baht in country conversion fee. Depends on the school and immigration office though.

Good to know. Where can I get the ED visa when I'm already in Thailand? Like an immigration office in Bangkok for example? (How does that work, how long et cetera?) Do you mean a proof of 20k bath or do I have to pay that?

@Yvonne ******
or if you can travel to cambodia, i believe you can apply student visa over there with 100 USD single visa

Yes, at an immigration office in Thailand. Each province has an immigration office and each of them have slightly different requirements. Chiang Mai will issue in country ED visas for a 20k baht fee. I don't know about Bangkok.

Would it also be possible to apply for the ED visa beforehand and not get a tourist visa?
