What visa options are available for my husband who frequently travels to Thailand, and does he need to do 24-hour reporting with an Elite visa?

Hi everyone

My daughter has education visa and I have guardian visa. So , both of us are ok as long as she is in school. Problem is my husband doesn’t have long term visa. He flies in and out of country a lot (about 10 times a year), he gets visa on arrival every time and he leaves within 30 days.

So far there is no problems but he is getting nervous about the number of times he goes in and out. And we don’t do the 24 hours reporting for him because it is just too much.

Question:

1. Could it become problem for him?

2. Is Elite visa only option? (not qualify for retirement visa yet)

3. Do they care about 24 hours reporting for elite visa holders?

Thanks for your thoughts

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about her husband's frequent travel to Thailand on a visa-exempt entry, his options for a long-term visa, and the necessity of 24-hour reporting. The community suggests that as long as he can prove he has a job overseas and can afford frequent trips, he likely won't encounter problems. Options such as applying for a Non-O visa based on marriage or possibly extending his stay based on the guardian visa are discussed. Furthermore, while 24-hour reporting might be disregarded at some immigration offices, it varies by location.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES

If flying in/out then no issue. If you can afford to fly every month then they are happy that you are spending money here. (There no restriction on entries if you fly).

Land crossings however currently have a 2/year limit for no-visa entry.

He should based on marriage be able to get a non-O the same as your guardian visa. You will need an authenticated marriage certificate (probably already have for your own visa).

IF he gets the O-visa then he will also need to get a multi-reentry permit.

But that said he should have no problem coming in and out on visa exempt stamps as long as he can prove he works OS and has income from work outside Thailand. He should carry pay slips and proof of job with him when he enters. I had an oil worker friend from Alaska who worked 30 days on/off and visited every second month for years with no problem.

Thank you! That’s reassuring.

I would go to the immigration office and see if both you and your husband can be on the same visa extension type. I have not seen it before and don't know IF two people can be on it or not.

There might be a chance he can have the same extension as you do, and that would certainly make it easier for him coming in and out repeatedly.

@Syl***
, first off your, if your husband gets stamped in for 30 days he doesn't get ANY visa when he shows up here. he's comin' here on a 30 day visa exempt entry. :/

Oh yes, ok. It’s visa exempt entry, not visa on arrival. Thanks. I get confused with all the lingos

He may be able to 'piggy-back' onto your guardian visa. Many immigration offices, including Bangkok, arent worried about the TM30, 24 hr reporting. If he did get an extention of stay based on your guardian visa but didnt stay in the country longer than 90 days then, in theory, he'd only have to report his address when applying for or renewing his extention of stay.

@St***
, AFAIK only one parent can get an extension based on being the guardian of a foreign child here. I don't believe both parents can get Non-O's and extensions for the same reason.

- I live in Bangkok and never worried about doing 24 hour reporting, its never been an issue until I went to the Pattaya/Chonburi immigration office. I guess there are policies that they choose to implement.. Point is the reporting varies by immigration office.

If your husband is traveling from the country that issued is passport, Multiple Entry Tourist Visa maybe an option to consider.

Are you on an 'extention of stay' or the origional visa? He may be able to get the same visa as you or piggy-back onto your extention of stay based on him being a guardian of your daughter too

What do you mean “if he did get an extension of stay based on your guardian visa”? He comes in with tourist visa on arrival, if he needs to stay more than 30 days, then he applies for extension himself, right?
