US citizen traveling from Myanmar to BKK tomorrow. I have return flight to Myanmar and a hotel booked for 10 days. In the meantime, I have decided to stay in BKK and look for a teaching job (yes, I have experience and credentials). My QUESTION is: should I just get the visa exemption at Don Muang? How do I extend after that? After hotel stay is up, I will do month to month until I find job. What about address notification? Thanks for your help....it is a complicated confusing process for a novice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen traveling from Myanmar to Bangkok should use the visa exemption at Don Muang, allowing a 30-day stay. This visa can be extended once for an additional 30 days. After the extension, options include leaving Thailand and re-entering for another 30 days of visa exemption or applying for a single-entry tourist visa at a neighboring country's consulate. It's suggested to search for teaching jobs in Bangkok, where selected schools can provide a business visa with a work permit.

You'll get stamped in on a 30 day visa exempt entry and you can extend that ONCE by 30 more days. Then you either bounce out and back in again to get another 30 day visa exempt entry OR you go to a thai consulate in another country and buy a single entry tourist visa.

You could have snapped up a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in Yangon Burma before you came here. They're easy to deal with,

BUT

I'd say once you're here the easiest one to deal with is the one in Vientiane Lao.

As far as reporting addresses, hotels and guest houses do it for you and depending on where your friends are and where you're going to stay the immigration office might not even require it.

I'd burn that bridge when you get to it. ;)

I appreciate the advice, since this is a last minute change, I have not had enough time to study all the requirements and regulations. Thx.

Thx. Easiest and most hassle free consulate? What about reporting change of address from the hotel (after my initial 10 days) .... possibly staying with friend in apartment, or renting an apartment month to month.
