Can I extend my non-imm B visa for a month after it expires, or do I need to leave Thailand and return on a tourist visa?

Hi! I’ve been teaching English in Bangkok for 14 months. My current non-imm B visa & work permit expire on March 10th.

I’d like to travel around Thailand for a month after I finish working. Is it possible to get an extension for a month (my school says it’s only possible for 7 days)? Or do I have to leave Thailand and come back on a tourist visa? USA passport.

Thank you!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about extending their non-immigrant B visa for one month after their current visa and work permit expire. However, it is indicated that extensions longer than seven days are not available. It's recommended to obtain a cancellation letter from the employer, visit the immigration office before the expiration date, and then exit the country to re-enter on a new visa, such as a tourist visa.

nope no such extension exits 😕

You get a letter from your employer stating you stop work on xxx date, you go to the immigration office a week or so before that date, they will cancel your current extension and stamp you in until the termination date, and then you leave by that time

You would have to bounce out and back to come in on a new visa exempt (free) entry stamp (which is currently for 45 days)

you are allowed two free visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year,

so there's no need to fly out and back or go to a thai consulate in another country and buy a tourist visa

You could use a service that would bounce you out and back at the border to get 45 day free entry.

that’s amazing - thank you!! I’ll definitely look into a service that does that!
