hi there, I am South African and have been living in Thailand for about 2 years. at first extending tourist visas and doing border runs to Penang, Malasia, and then changed to an educational visa (studying Thai language) for a year. that year is coming to an end this month. now I would like to go onto a work permit (for teaching English) but my visa will expire before I can do so.

does anyone know what the likelihood of leaving the country and coming back to get a visa exempt entry is? I only need about 2 weeks till I'm able to get a work permit.

THANK YOU!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is a South African expat in Thailand looking to transition from an educational visa to a work permit for teaching English. Their current visa is expiring soon, and they seek advice on leaving Thailand and returning for a visa exempt entry, needing about two weeks to finalize the work permit process. A comment advises ensuring three proofs for immigration, including cash, accommodation, and onward travel, to facilitate a smooth re-entry.

You are in the category of people using Tourist Visa, Visa Exempt Stamp and ED visa to live long time inside the country. Immigration Officers can ask the 3 proofs: 20k cash, accommodation and proof on onward travel. Make sure you have all three and get some proof that you do not work inside Thailand, like foreign income to be on the safe side. But in the end it is the decision of the Immigration Officer. Good luck.
