Need some advice. I landed in september on a Type O tourist visa and thought it was good for 6 months. Totally didnt know i was supposed to report after 3 months (december) until last week. I went to immigration and got hit with the 20000b max fine and was worried i may be banned. Luckily they gave me a 2 month visitor family visa extension cuz my wife n kid are thai thats good until beginning of may. What are my next steps? What visa should i be looking for? Im worried i may be booted out in may.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user overstayed their Type O tourist visa in Thailand for more than 40 days, incurring the maximum fine of 20,000 baht. They were granted a 2-month family visitor visa extension due to their spouse and child being Thai nationals. They are seeking advice on their next steps and what visa to pursue to avoid being asked to leave Thailand in May.

thank you...that is most helpful. Follow the good advice of
@Tod ********
and you can obtain a one year extension of stay as Married to Thai 😊

Also IF you are a canadian (seeing as you were married in Canada) you could go to the embassy here and get a notarized letter stating you meet the proof of 40K baht a month in income from your country AND you could use that as proof of funds to get a year extension based on marriage. You wouldn't need to bank 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only OR need to transfer in to the country 40K baht a month for a year because your embassy still gives the income from abroad letter (US, UK, and Australia don't anymore)

IF that's the case

the FIRST step in getting a long term extension IS getting the marriage of a thai married abroad registered here in thailand at the local city hall and getting what's called a Kor Ror 22 (ค.ร.๒๒) which is what you need to start down the road in getting a yearly extension based on marriage to a thai.

Are you legally married to Thai with Thai marriage certificate ?

Or father of a Thai child as shown on the birth certificate?

well, what ever you entered on you overstayed MORE than 40 days :O (because IF they fined you the max overstay that's 500 a day for 40s and it caps out at 20K baht) .

You are lucky you didn't hit 90 day overstay as that's a automatic year ban

Sounds like you're good now (having paid for the days you overstayed) and having a 60 day visit family extension until May.

thanks. But where should i go from here. They also stamped my fine for overstaying in my passport. Is that going to bite me in ths ass somewhere down the line or is that just protocol?

face it you're far from the first foreigner to overstay in the history of thailand. it isn't gonna affect you getting an extension inside the country. We're just trying to find out what you entered on and WHY you got that visa you got so we can tell you how to proceed going forward with a long term extension

What’s a type o tourist visa? Can you show us a picture of this visa? If you don’t feel comfortable posting this in public, you can send a copy of it to any mod.
