Should I go to immigration in Phuket or just show my Emirates flight change documents at the airport due to an overstay?

Hello, our flight has been delayed by one day and we will have an overstay. Do you think we should go to immigration in Phuket or directly to the airport showing our Emirates documents with the one-day flight change? Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user has a flight delay causing a potential one-day overstay in Thailand and asks for advice on whether to visit immigration in Phuket or just go to the airport with documentation from Emirates. Responses from the community suggest that, due to the flight delay, it's likely the immigration authorities will be lenient regarding the overstay. Many users recommend showing proof of the delayed flight at the airport rather than going to immigration, emphasizing that fines for such a short overstay may be waived. Overall, the consensus is that there should not be significant issues for the user if they have appropriate documentation.

There is no fine for a one day (under 24 hrs) overstay if you are departing by air. You'll get a little stamp in your passport saying overstay one day, fine waived. Keep your cancellation notice handy for when you go through passport control.

If they pick you up before the airport you have a good chance for deportation

No worries over stay 500/days , Some situations may be exempt from fines, depending on the discretion of the immigration officer at the airport.

Nothing to worry about they already informed travelers they will skip the overstay fee for those with cancelled flight. Don’t bother wasting time to the immigration

Immigration at the border just needs proof of the cancelled/ delayed flight and then they don't charge for the overstay.

I had nearly 1 week overstay and it was no problem

Just one day "overstay", they usually dont worry about... at worst there might be a 500 baht per day fine.. but in the current situation, i think they will be fairly lenient.

I was on overstay (5 days). The immigration officer took me to a desk, I showed her my cancellation email from Qatar airways and she stamped my passport with an extension until the day I left. No fee, no overstay stamp.

Just go the airport, immigration have already announced they expect this and will help, worst case you get 500 baht fine, but they have already stated they will be tolerant due to circumstances.

No such thing as a 500 baht fine for overstay.

There is No fine for one day but if you overstay 2 days then you pay both.

Minimum overstay fine you pay is 1000baht.

Gethin Evans fined in Phuket airport also for an 11 hour overstay, the overstay is clearly stamped in my passport and was charged 500 baht..there is no clear rules on this and is at the discretion of the officer, some will waiver it some not.

You don't know there will be another shift in flight. Personally, I would go to immigration. I had the situation last week. In the end I flew on time, but it wasn't worth risking an overstay. I would like to go back in two months without any problems enter.

Don’t need to go to immigration you just need to show email on cancelled flight. Besides no overstay fine for 1 day and no problems in future for overstay of less than 7 days.

Gethin Evans Flights are repeatedly postponed or cancelled. Immigration is not a big effort and I'm always on the safe side for 30 days. Everyone as he wants.
