TLDR : Answer Summary
To volunteer in Thailand, you typically need a Non-O (Volunteer) visa. However, obtaining this visa has become increasingly difficult due to past abuses. To volunteer legally, it's essential that the organization you wish to volunteer for can secure this visa on your behalf. Additionally, a work permit is generally required, even if you will not be receiving any payment for the work. Some people suggest you can enter Thailand on a tourist visa (with a 60-day entry stamp), but if you plan to volunteer for more than 30 days, you must apply for the appropriate visa.

You can volunteer on a tourist stamp ie 60 days on entry as long as it’s no longer than 30 days, after this period you will have to apply for a non O visa as volunteering is considered “working” even though you are not receiving a wage.
that's new to me... interesting. I am in Thailand at the moment for 86 days, entered on exempt on Oktober 1. So, before Nov 29, I have to go for 30 day extention. Would that mean I could teach in December?

I think the 30 day free period starts on entry to Thailand after that you will have to apply for the correct voulnteer visa, ie non O volunteering with a letter of recommendation from said charity or school, I think teaching maybe slightly different to working for an animal charity.

I would suspect the volunteer visa fits your requirement

Free 60 day upon entry and don't tell any immigration or embassy officials that might be walking by what your doing
I respect the country I visit. And it's laws. It's because of the Farang that do what they want, that the rules exsist :-)

Non Immigrant B (to obtain in your country or a neighboring country of Thailand, and a workpermit. I needed a ' 'Certificate of criminal past' also (for teaching). Also to obtain in your home country.
You are referring to a paid teaching position that requires a Non B visa and security clearance and stuff. Completely different to what the OP was referring to.
I’m sure “Thai Legal International” know what they are talking about. That’s what you’d need to do your job.
A Non B stands for “business” visa. It’s for employment. It’s where a company employs you (and pays you) to work for them.
A Non O (volunteer) visa is for people that “work” at an institution but don’t get paid. A work permit is still a requirement to do that though regardless that you’re not getting paid.
I am sorry but 'Thai Legal International" advised me a Non Immigrant B visa...I am pretty sure they know what they are talking about...
I quote: "As for your visa: since you're not considering legal marriage at this stage, then — the Non-Immigrant B Visa (Working Visa) — is the most appropriate route for your situation."
And:
"Key requirements include:
An invitation letter from the Thai school, stating the position (volunteer English teacher) and duration
School registration documents
A copy of the director’s Thai ID
Possibly your TEFL certificate (once completed) and your CV
Proof of residence in the Netherlands
Health insurance covering your stay in Thailand
Completed the visa application form and paid of visa fee"
Turns out, I also had to obtain a Certificate of Criminal Past in my country...
"As for your visa: since you're not considering legal marriage at this stage, then Plan B — the Non-Immigrant B Visa (Working Visa) — is the most appropriate route for your situation.
I’ve (agent at Siam Legal) reviewed the current requirements from the Royal Thai Embassy in The Hague, and here’s a brief outline for your reference (see screenshot below):

that's not volunteering if you start working in and for a school this still is real "working", yet without payment. A school is not a NGO volunteer organisation or the Peace Corps. . . . . So it was a Non-Imm-B (employment) visa for you with documentation from the school, instead of a Non-Imm-V Volunteer Visa, and it doesn't matter if you get paid by the school or not
