Quick questions. I have read that for ANY volunteer work you have to have a work permit for that. Is this true? I also heard that if a volunteer place does not take care of this for you, you are being illegal. True? Thanks all of you gang out there. shalom cheers aloha, JB

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, it is technically required to have a work permit and an appropriate visa for any volunteer work. Although some volunteers work without permits and face no consequences, this practice carries a risk as enforcement could change.

It’s technically and legally correct as Robert stated, but the reality is many people do volunteer without such and without any repercussions...one organisation has had volunteers for 46 years with no single issue...and some of them have been volunteering for many years. But it’s a risk that one day things will be enforced.

Yes, you need work permit and a visa that allows you to work.
