"Volunteering" in Thailand. Has anyone some experience? Is it true that you need to have a special VISA for volunteering? And it has to be sponsored by the organization hosting the volunteer?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Volunteering in Thailand typically requires a specific visa, known as the Single Entry Non Immigrant O visa, which must be supported by the organization you will be volunteering with. Upon entering Thailand, you will also need to obtain a work permit, facilitated by the hosting organization.

Yes, with papers of the organization you apply for the Single Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on Volunteering and when you come into Thailand you get the Work Permit, with help of the organization and than you can start.
I've gone touring down south and it is safe. Certain provinces have issues as Robert stated but it is quite few and far between...foodie tours operate down there frequently.

This volunteer organization does not mention anything about needed Visa and Work Permit for Thailand, bad information. But most of these organizations just write: Do it yourself which is impossible. You need to contact them and ask if they will provide you with the documents for the Visa and the Work Permit, as noble as it is to take care animals in Thailand, do not do it without the visa and work permit. An organization that knowing and willing to let you be an illegal in the country says enough to me about them selves.

To be clear: The three southern provinces, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat have problems. These three provinces also mentioned by almost every foreign Embassy as not safe to travel to. Songkla the city where this foundation is, is not in these three provinces. Yes, it is a city in the south but every city is in the south, if you stand on the north pole.

Joseph Graham stop spreading false bullshit. Tourists have never been injured in the south.

hi Robert, kindly thanks for your answer. Ok, so I have an example for you. I would like to volunteer for this organization:
/volunteers-urgently-needed-for-dog.html Should I ask this host to provide a Visa for me? Does it mean they have to pay for it or just justify my presence?
