Had a friend with 5 thai tourist visas (2 new york, 3 laos) refused his 6th visa on laos embassy without a chance to proof docs when he meets all requirements. Apparently told he can apply for any except tourist visa and embassy refuses to talk. Any suggestions?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice for a friend whose sixth tourist visa application was refused by the Laos embassy, despite meeting all requirements and previously holding five tourist visas. The embassy informed him that he can no longer apply for a tourist visa there, leaving him with limited options. Comments suggest he might try entering Thailand via a visa-exempt entry if he hasn't utilized two land entries within the year, consider applying for a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa from his home country, or switch up consulates to avoid issues with previous visa rejections. There are also discussions on whether warning stamps affect visa-exempt entry and the implications of holding multiple passports.

The thai consulates don't have a data base to check how many tourist visas you've got. They just look thru your passport, which is why when people get a new passport they can go back and get tourist visas from consulates where they had the warning stamp.

Getting a new passport does NOT "wipe the slate clean" the same way when you enter the country. Whether it's an old or new passport, the people at passport control can see all your entry history. A friend who holds two passports said they can see entry history from both passports if they want to.

He hold Both passports from the same country or different countries ?

@Alex*****
, That's the reason he was denied. :/

Many times they don't even tell you they stamped that warning stamp when they give your passport back :( ใ€€

One person actually thought the thai immigration people who stamp you in&out of the country put it in his passport. :O

They'd need to use another consulate OR apply for a new passport because the thai consulates don't have a database they just look for tourist visa & warning stamps.

@Alex*****
, he'd get in fine on a visa exempt BUT I'd suggest he come into thailand by a Lao land border NOT fly into Don Mueang, just to be safe.

Yesh he didnt even know until he got refused. Which makes me wonder if he can enter on visa exemption or if has to go back to usa and apply for new passaport.

Question. The other guy above stated going on visa exemption. If you have a black mark on a tourist visa is it possible to go on visa exemption?

@Alex*****
it doesn't affect visa-exemption. It just means "no more visas from Laos". He can possibly even get another tourist visa from another consulate (not in Laos) but some may take that into consideration... it is probably advisable to either change visa type OR get a new passport (which fixes the problem).

Did your friend get a warning stamp on one of the tourist visas from Lao?

@Alex*****
you need to switch up the consulates a bit to avoid this, not keep going back to the same one. Like go Vientiane-Penang-Yangon-Kota Bharu-Hanoi-Hong Kong-Vientiane- etc. Many of the consulates tend to look at their own visas only and you only get that stamp if you keep going back to the same one.

Yes apparently on last one even thought he hadnt noticed. Usually he flies but last time he took train wih his girlfriend. That was the time he got that.

not 100% sure on this but I think I have read suggestions that both consulates in Laos consider the other consulates visas when adding stuff up, so if he has been refused by one maybe unlikely he will get from the other.

Correct (y) , I know people who had a warning stamp from Vientiane on their last tourist visa being denied one in Savannakhet..

@Ed***
says he should be able to return to Thailand on a visa-exempt entry presuming he has not done two land entries already this year. Then either go somewhere else for the next one (like Penang) or consider an Ed visa, etc.

@J**
very helpful advice I'm sure. Whatever he "is" if he has no previous land visa-exempt entries this year he should not have difficulties coming back through the Nong Khai border on a visa-exempt (presuming he's American and eligible).

But he's not a tourist.

Options are limited, travel around and try your luck at any other Embassy or just back to home country and apply for the Multi Entry Tourist Visa which gives him 270 days Thailand when correct used.

If still in Laos no harm to try savannakhet
Eddie *******
Maybe just go back into Thailand on a Visa exempt. Looks like your options are very limited

Thing is apparently he got a blackmark on his passaport visa when he last left the country. Can he do visa exempt like that?
