What are the best options for re-entering Thailand after a tourist visa denial?

Hi everyone, a friend just got his Tourist Visa application denied at Phnom Penh. Reason: "Applicant has entered Thailand frequently and for long durations using tourist visas".

Now he is looking for the best way to re-enter Thailand.

He is French passport holder and can't re-enter by land since he's already done that twice this year.

That would be his last entry before he finishes the paperwork to open his company here and then can switch to an appropriate visa instead of tourist.

If anyone knowledgeable has any information it would be very appreciated.

Please keep it constructive, we all already know that tourist visas are not the appropriate way for frequent and long stays.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A French passport holder recently faced a tourist visa denial in Phnom Penh due to frequent long stays in Thailand. Seeking advice on possible ways to re-enter, community members suggested flying in on a 30-day visa exemption or applying for a tourist visa from another country like Laos or Malaysia. They discussed the necessity of avoiding frequent tourist visas and suggested alternatives like applying for a 6-month METV.

and I think that the options available to the person in question are pretty clearly spelled out (seeing as there is ONLY a finite number of things they can do to get back into the country).

Good Luck (y)

why didnt he apply for the 6month METV each time and bypass the 60 Day SETV...he can still apply for the 6 month METV in Perth Australia if he wants to go that route and meets all the requirements

Flying to Perth and getting a 6 month METV would be an option but the O/P states they only need about 60-90 days more to get another visa type sorted out.

he can just go to another Thai Embassy/Consulate and apply for a visa '

Sorry for asking but what does 'long stays with tourist visa' mean? As long as I understand you get 60 days with a tourist visa and then you may extend that 30 days more. So staying 90 days is a bad thing?

, IF you live here on back to back tourist visas at some point the consulate will red stamp your visa stating you got too many from them and you can't use that consulate anymore. I have only seen this stamp on ONE other visa (also from Phnom Penh) and also from someone who had been living here on tourist visas for a good while.

It becomes "a bad thing" if you do that too many times.

they probably mean he has had many in a row from the same consulate...rule of thumb no more than 3 at any embassy/consulate in a row

If he's already burned his TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year his only recourse is to fly in on a 30 day visa exempt entry OR fly to another country and apply for a tourist visa there.

Poor choice thinking that Phnom Penh was a viable place to get a tourist visa. :/

The inter-web has more than a few posts from people denied turning in their visa applications and/or who were issued visas that were void without prejudice.

I'd say of the two choices, That flying to Lao, getting a tourist visa from Vientiane and entering at Nong Khai, OR flying to Malaysia, getting a tourist visa from Penang and entering at Sadao would be better and less risky than flying in on a 30 day visa exempt entry and running the risk of getting questioned by passport control at the airport and possible denied entry.
