TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian national, Leonard Robert, was recently denied entry into Thailand despite having a history of frequent visits due to what immigration cited as 'too many entries' this year. Many commenters shared their insights, suggesting that the denial might be due to his extensive entry record with tourist visas or visa exemptions. They advised him to explore other routes for entry, such as entering through a neighboring country, and to consider applying for a tourist visa before returning to Thailand.

Just so EVERYONE is clear. Tod has no magic.

This person was denied entry comin' in on a 30 day visa exempt entry because they have too many entries like that so far.

While that isn't a real reason to be denied it IS the reason that immigration officers tell you when they wanna deny you and then they put no proof of funds, suspected working etc or another real reason on the denial of entry stamp.

The person denied was sent back to Australia. I told them IF they haven't gotten two 30 day visa exempt entries so far this year by land to just fly to a border country and enter thailand by land AND if they DO have two 30 day visa exempt entries by land so far this year, either BUY a tourist visa from a thai consulate before going to a border country and entering OR wait until next year (when the calendar resets and they can get in by land from a border country.

Ok guys, thank you all very much for your quick responses,
@T**
& Leo are now chatting in private messenger to try to sort this out, one way or another. So I will close commenting here & let Tod work his magic ;-)

Is the number of entries always counted per calendar year? Could he in the worst case hang out somewhere in a neighboring country until January 1 and come back without problems. Or will they look at the number of entries in the last year(s) too?

@Robert ******
Yes but obviously they can deny entry on the basis of too many entries. Whatever is too many. 🤔
Robert *******
There is no limited number of entries by air.
Robert *******
lives with his 'Thai wife', meaning he does not and does not have the Non Immigrant O visa based on being married?

'Thai wife' meaning they are not actually married, so no NON-IMM O b/c of marriage....

Okay, despite being TOLD that there's a limit on number of entries by tourist visas or visa exempt entries in a period of time there isn't.

While they are telling him he's being denied entry because of his entry history they will put no proof of funds or suspected working as the denial reasons on his stamp.

IF he has an extensive entry history on visa exempts or tourist visas he had to know it was only a matter of time before he'd get called aside.

Please note I am totally sympathetic to his plight. BUT I'd suggest he just buy a ticket to a neighboring country (if the carrier who brought him will let him) then enter thailand by land.

He's denied entry on this attempt, he is NOT banned, he is not blacklisted. He can try to enter the country another way without any issues

Can you be more specific and tell us how many times he's been in, what type of visa or exemption and whether he had the Holy Trinity of onward travel, accommodation and 20,000 baht in cash? With this info the boys here can give better advice
