Hi all. I brought 2 Rolex watches with me as personal belonging 6 months ago into Thailand from UK. As I live here I wanted the set with me. My dad shipped the empty boxes recently but the depot is holding the package as they want to see whats inside. How do I go about getting them safely? The boxes are not worth much. Do I say dad sent a gift over? I dont really want problems if they suspect I have the watches and suspect im selling.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat who has moved to Thailand is seeking advice on how to retrieve empty Rolex watch boxes that were shipped from the UK by their father, with customs inquiring about their contents. There are concerns about how to declare the boxes without raising suspicion of import tax or trade issues, especially since the expat already owns the watches. Commenters suggest various strategies, including being transparent about the boxes' lack of value, stating they are for storage of personal belongings, and asserting they are collectibles with no commercial value.

I've got this one for sale. Make me an offer
Nick *********
Demand they produce the watches . next time insure the package ha ha
Peter ************
Say that you collect big brand boxes,no value but collectible!
Daniel **********
Let them open the box. There will be no tax on empty watch boxes. Not a big issue at all.
Diedy **********
If you could buy those watches legally, you can certainly afford to be honest about the boxes, can't you?

Just claim these boxes to be decorative items.
Otto *********
And claim them to be "ncv" meaning "No commercial value".

@Otto ********
true, i think im overthinking it as I expected them to just arrive. The boxes can be bought alone for like 10k baht so if I just say collect empty box shouldn't be issue.
Richard ******
Careful here! I can smell a Somchai after your watches!
Danielle ********
Check out eBay (us ) and take a screen shot of a Rolex box just in case they want to put a value on them … simple I did this with an IPad box a few months ago
Gill *****
Tell the truth you brought them over when you moved over there and now you want the boxes to store them
Thanyanan *****************
You have to go to post office and they will charge you tax and VAT only on the boxes around 1,000 to 2,000 Baht per box.
Daniel **********
@Thanyanan ****************
why do you think there will be tax on empty boxes?
Thanyanan *****************
@Daniel *********
The boxes have value in Thailand as well. I did sent it by normal parcel before and paid around 1,800 Bath at post office.
Philip **********
Have you thought about when you go back to your home country. Two Rolex watches in boxes. Cha Ching $$. Hope you have a receipt.
Berto ******
I think they will want to check the contents for import tax purposes.

@Berto *****
correct. Of course if watches were in there would be high fee but theyre empty. Just not sure whether to say i brought watches with me or dad sent his empty boxes for me to store mine.

@Alan ********

Matt *********
They will charge you tax on the boxes I sent a parcel over to my girlfriend and they charged me vat on everything what was in the parcel
Daniel **********
@Matt ********
no they won't charge tax on empty boxes.
Shayne **********
Buy a couple of 500 baht really fake Rolexs and take them to customs to show them you want the boxes to hold them.
Dave ******
They are empty boxes. Go in and let them open the packages. Watch their eyes light up when they think they are in for a massive import tax payout. Ask them to open the boxes . Video it all and please share 😃

Sandra *********************
@Paul ********
just say you don’t have but you need those empty boxes
Dave ******
@Paul ********
You wore the watches flying into Thailand (in the past) and you wanted the boxes.
Dave ******
You can't be taxed on something you were wearing as far as I know , nevermind at some point in time in the future.
Shayne **********
@Paul ********
if they say where the watches, show them the fake ones and laugh at them.
Dave ******
@Shayne *********
why would you do that ?
Steve ********
The irony is that genuine Rolex watch boxes are actually made in Thailand! 😆

yeh thats the honest answer really. I own the box but not sure that holds me liable of import tax bringing the expensive goods in technically. Trying to figure if I should say my dads boxes gift to me.
Lindsey **********

I did the same thing and sent the boxes separate as they were heavy
