Hi! I'm on the road, currently Bangkok, and I need to get my Covid extension, so I need to get a TM30 here. Does anyone know a hotel that will register me automatically, or at least without me having to insist? Only one resort in Krabi ever registered me without my asking, the rest took a lot of pleading and handholding, and I'm trying to spare myself the trouble. Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in Bangkok seeks advice on obtaining a TM30 for a COVID extension without facing difficulties from hotels. Comments highlight that hotels are legally required to file TM30s, especially in Bangkok where compliance is higher. However, obtaining a COVID extension is not guaranteed, and applicants are cautioned about recent stricter immigration rules regarding extensions and documentation requirements. The user explains their need for the extension as a step before transitioning to an education visa, emphasizing urgency and a preference for smoother processing.

I generally get them in Koh Phangan where I've been living, but now I've been on the road for a few months so I've done one in Pha Nga (very easy and you're done in the day) and now this one caught me here. It's my last one because I have everything ready to switch to a Muay Thai ed visa in Phuket next week, but they need my current extension to have at least three weeks left to process it, so I need to squeeze one more in before I turn my passport in to the school.

I don't want to do this last Covid extension in Phuket because I won't make it in time and I don't want to pay fines and look sloppy right before I switch to ed, and because instead of a day it takes two weeks there, which would make the whole thing slower until I can get my passport back, and I need to get to work on my local bank account, driver's license, etc, ASAP.

May I ask why you have chose to seek a COVID extension in Bangkok rather than where you got your current one on Koh Phan-gan island?

Sadly, this is not a hotel advice group. You’re better off asking on a Bangkok expat group.

Thank you.

A TM30 will be filed online by a hotel in Bangkok when you check in. You can ask for a screen print to show Thai Immigration.

You can apply for a COVID extension...but there is no guarantee that it will be approved.

Apply before your current permission to stay date expires

But not later than January 25th

Go before that date as the extension - if granted - is from your current COVID extension ending date.

The COVID extension is not guaranteed. In fact we have reports of this happening in recent weeks:

...of extension being denied

...given 7 days to depart Thailand

...granting less than 60 days

...requesting to see a confirmed booked flight out of Thailand.

And/Or

...a letter from your home country Embassy is needed requesting the extension

Be sure that you have a TM30 address registration filed where you are living.

And be prepared to answer the question... Why are you still in Thailand?

The COVID extension is not guaranteed...and as you stated this is not your first COVID extension request.

If you have been in Thailand for nearly a year using many extensions...Including multiple COVID extensions....

Then the newly published Thai Immigration Order should be of interest to you.

The Immigration Officers have been instructed to be stricter in granting the COVID extensions.

And recent reports of less than 60 days are reported granted...even the 7 days to leave Thailand stamp.

Suggest you have a Plan B in mind.

Read the last five lines on right column of the newly issued Thai Immigration Order....

Good Luck

They're all legally required to do it. I think Bangkok likely has higher compliance than the provinces.
