What should I expect during my DTV visa interview at the Thai Embassy in London?

***EDIT: Thank you to those who gave helpful mature insight πŸ‘ shame about some of the other numpties who always seem a bit too unhappy internally/in their own lives to contribute constructively 🀦

I just had a mild panic at the time (we're all human after all) πŸ˜… Hopefully all will be well after the interview πŸ™***

Hi all, hoping for some advice.

I applied for the DTV (workcation), 1 month ago.

After 2 weeks I emailed for an update and with an hour was asked for additional documents, which I know is fairly standard.

I supplied everything (6 individual requests), proof of funds far beyond the 500,000thb consistently for over 3mnths, plus some documents I had already submitted previously, all with detailed cover letters for each document request.

Today I sent an email asking kindly could I have an update on my application (2 weeks since I sent the additional documents). Within half an hour I recieved an email with a request for further documents, however it is a request to attend an interview!

There's no formal invitation, it's just a request under 'additional documents'...

My understanding as a civilian attending an Embassy (I could of course be mistaken), is you need a formal invitation and can't just turn up at an Embassy.

The request simply says "Please visit Consular Section,Royal Thai Embassy in London for interview on Tue 27 Jan 2026 between 09:00 - 11.00 hours only. Please bring your passport with you for visa interview".

I'm surprised by the request as I've been following this group for a while, which has been very helpful, and I've never seen anyone asked to attend in person in London (as far as I'm aware).

For context, I live in the UK, have applied in the UK, and I have a British Passport.

What concerns me, is not only is it very vague (only asking me to bring passport), but there's no seperate email invitation request, which you would expect for something so official.

Also, on the online portal, there is a bell at the top of the page for notifications which has a drop-down menu which says "Request documents-1, Request an interview-0"

I would have expected the interview request to be under the interview section, not as a simple document request.

I've sent them a cover letter asking for further details, where I was given the option to attach a document... I've emailed them, and I've phoned several times, without luck.

I am of course happy to comply with the request, but I live very far from London and the request seems to lack detail. It will mean travelling up the night before, etc... and the cost involved seems a bit risky when I don't have a formal interview or time/appointment when I turn up there.

This is my first time applying for the DTV, so naturally I don't know everything, and that's what groups like this should be for - to help others & to learn.

So if anyone has any experience or insight they could provide, I'd be super grateful.

This may well all be completely normal, but hoping those with more experience could shed some light perhaps.

Many thanks in advance πŸ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has applied for a DTV (Digital Nomad or Workcation Visa) and is feeling apprehensive after receiving a request for an in-person interview at the Thai Embassy in London. They express concerns about the lack of detail provided in the request, which resembles a routine document request rather than a formal invitation. Many commenters reassure the user that requesting an interview, though rare for the London Embassy, is becoming more common and suggest that they prepare to answer basic questions regarding their application and present their financial proof. Overall, the community offers supportive advice and shares personal experiences with similar visa interview situations.

The interview is nothing to worry about as long as everything is on the up and up and were truthful on your application and have a valid reason for the visa. They are granting 5 years to stay in Thailand so sometimes more verification is done.

Yep, nothing to hide, will show them all original documents and clarify anything they're not sure about and show them my bank statements too on my phone (as others have mentioned), which all remains the same as when I first applied. I'm not worried about explaining or demonstrating anything, I've provided them with everything I have...was just a bit of a surpriseπŸ˜… as an interview in London is very rarely heard of, and I got the update suddenly within half an hour of nudging them by email so seemed a tad random...

All good though. Most people in this group are helpful & provide mature replies. The group should be for helping people who have doubts/concerns/questions afterall 🀷

I'll just travel up to London and hope for the best πŸ‘

And thanks πŸ™

As there are elections in the near future in Thailand I guess the MP of Foreign Affairs is to busy with his campaign and did not have the time to write a personal invitation for you.

For your state of mind, the Embassy does have a computer and a printer, allt he documents you have send are filed and can be easily seen in case you show up during the times asked.

Sorry for the inconvienience,

Thanks for your sarcastic pointless contribution - very helpful & mature🀦! And then you wonder why some people choose to post anonymously 🀷

I see you commenting on many many other posts on this group in the exact same manner, so I won't take it personally πŸ‘

Always the same demographic - shame really. I wonder if you're like this in person with others, or just from behind a computer screen 🫀

If you have the DTV yourself, then help people, or just scroll past...because it makes zero logical sense to just use this page to take passive-agressive swipes at strangers or bemoan people asking for reassurance 🀷 The tone of your comment says more about you than it does me buddy.

And maybe try lightening up too...you might feel happier, because healthy mature people offer helpful insight, not comments like yours πŸ™πŸ™ Have a nice day πŸ™

Anonymous participant Thanks for taking the time to read and value my contribution to your question. My visa is not relevant in this problem.

You worry about going to an Embassy with only a passport, I tried to explain that in these modern times the Thai Embassy has the documents as you heve send them, you do not need to bring extra copies.

But that seems to hard to understand.

Seems pretty straight forward to me. They've asked you to come for an appointment and given you a date and time, what more info do you need?πŸ˜‚

I applied from Pakistan (Islamabad Embassy), which is honestly one of the toughest places for DTV approval. Very few people get approved here, so the scrutiny is extremely high.

In my case they kept asking for an employment contract or certificate and also a portfolio.

I could provide the portfolio but I don’t have an employment contract or certificate because i am a YouTuber, which I explained.

Things like YouTube Analytics, AdSense, the YouTube Partner Program, how Google pays creators, and what EPRC reports are not very common or straightforward for visa officers.

I only got approved after the interview, when I explained in person:

- what my work is

- how YouTube monetization works

- how ads generate revenue

- how money goes from YouTube β†’ AdSense β†’ bank

Once I clarified everything face to face, the application was approved shortly after.

So if they’ve asked you for many documents and now want an interview, that usually means they need clarification, not that they’re rejecting you. The interview is often the final step.

Yep. Just had an email from them with a slightly more "formal" interview invitiation after emailing them, so I feel more reassured now. London is a bit of treck from where I live in the UK, but it's worth it...was just surprised by the request as it's rarely mentioned in this group. And thank you πŸ™

Anonymous participant have you inquired regarding the possibility of an online interview instead of in person?

Hadn't considered that - whenever I've emailed them the replies are always quite generic and could really have been sent to any applicant... It's fair enough, they are likely inundated with applications and very busy.

I guess I could ask about an online interview, but I'm more than happy to comply with their request, it was just a bit of a shock after seeing so many people saying London was one of the more straightforward Embassys. I know other countries request interviews but rarely the UK.

The DTV is a great visa and 5yrs feels like quite a privilege, so I'll do whatever is required and just hope they're satisfied after the interview πŸ™ Nothing to hide, will take all original documents with me, and clarify anything they need to.

I've only ever seen a request for interview once on this page in London, so thought it couldn't hurt to get further insight & knowledge on here πŸ™

Thanks for the suggestion though πŸ™

Use the search function. There was someone who had a similar request and had to fly into London from one of the isle (or maybe Ireland). I believe she/he was given a day or two notice. Might be useful to look at what they posted and maybe contact them to find out how it went

DTV_BegPecker yep, did that whilst my post was being approved by admin πŸ™‚ For generic repetitive questions, I can understand using the search function, but for something fairly out of the ordinary like this I don't think it can ever hurt to get extra insight, as not everyone replies to every post πŸ™

Recently London has been asking some applicants to attend an interview. They will ask you basic questions on your application, reason for wanting the DTV etc. Be prepared to show your bank balance on yoru phone.
