I applied on Feb 17th, then got asked to upload some additional documents on 21st, then today I get asked to go for an interview. It doesn't request me to take anything to the interview, but I am thinking to take my passport at least. For those who went for an interview, how did it go, what did you talk about and do you have any advice. This is for the Thai embassy in Tokyo. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has recently applied for a visa at the Thai embassy in Tokyo and is seeking advice regarding the interview process. They are unsure about what to bring, though they plan on taking their passport. Commenters advise bringing all documents submitted with the application and mention that interviews may involve questions about one's phone. They note that it is uncommon for non-Japanese nationals to apply for this visa at that embassy, and some express concerns about the possibility that the visa could be changed to a tourist visa following the interview.

In Tokyo, it seems that it is common for the visa to be unilaterally changed to a tourist visa after the interview.

This really changed many people to tourist visas. It seems to be the kindness of the embassy. Because once rejected, it is difficult to get in other places. Especially in Tokyo, it is difficult to get DTV. But I wish you success.

Anonymous participant 279 but having an interview doesn't mean I'm rejected, does it? In terms of requirements and documents, I tick all the boxes

Yes, an interview can lead to approval. However, many people have had their visas changed unilaterally to tourist visas after the interview.

I can probably count on one hand with fingers left over the number of people who weren't Japanese nationals who applied for DTV thru the 3 consulates (tokyo, osaka, fukuoka) in Japan

There are just very FEW who have done it

BUT

the advice from Christian NH is sound advice (y) TAKE everything you uploaded when you applied, your passport as well as your proof you have a long term visa/work arrangement in Japan too

i have lived in Tokyo that long too. Having had the interview at Taipei, I would say they just want to clarify things you have submitted. The staff at the Tokyo Thai embassy were very friendly when I was going back and forth with them about applying for the DTV there. I know a few in Fukuoka who got approved but you are the first in Tokyo going thru the process in this group, I'm aware of.
