Hello. I am Japanese and entered the country on a tourist visa. I have a Thai wife. I prepared all the documents and applied for my first O visa (Thai wife) at the immigration office on Koh Samui on July 26th. They said they would send my documents to the head office in Hat Yai. My tourist visa expires on August 13th, but the immigration office told me that my O visa would arrive before then. On July 27, the immigration office also conducted a home visit. However, I was told that the visa had not arrived by August 13th. When I was accepted on Koh Samui, I was told that I had a 90% chance of passing, so I had to wait. They say if you pass, you won't be overstayed. Since then, I have been calling the immigration office on Koh Samui every day on weekdays to confirm whether my visa has arrived, but I have been told that it has not yet arrived. There are no stamps on my passport, only the writing in pen. Is it normal to have to wait this long? Or if I fail, am I overstaying? I'm in big trouble.

1301 is my reception number.

I also have a receipt for the payment of ฿2000.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Japanese expat in Thailand is concerned about their Thai O visa application due to a pending decision after applying while on a tourist visa. Despite being told their visa would arrive before the tourist visa expiration on August 13th, it has not yet been issued, and they have only received pen-written notes on their passport with no official stamp. They seek guidance on whether it's common to wait this long and what to do if they end up overstaying.

The important thing is that light blue receipt with the date to be back to the immigration office on that. That is the proof you are under the review of the in-country visa. Be sure you keep it with your passport. You need it when you get the initial visa and the admitted-to-stay stamp on your passport.

Once your documents are accepted, your visa will be issued unless you violate any of the requirements or laws.

You should be fine especially when you are talking with immigration officers and they say okay. You are not the first foreigner whose under-review period takes longer than the date on the receipt, happens quite a lot a the offices like that need to send documentation to the main office..

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful advice. I keep the receipt. I will keep it carefully in the future. However, it is very inconvenient because I cannot move from the island😢

You can move from the island, but you just can't leave the country and you have to go back to that immigration office once your Non-O visa is approved to get it stamped in to the passport.

Thank you! I want to travel to the mainland. But I'm waiting on the island because I don't know when my visa will be approved. I don't want to rush back.
