What should I do if I've submitted a DTV visa application but my supporting documents reference a different passport?

Hi there,

I just applied today for my DTV visa. I am an offshore worker from UK. I live in Phuket Thailand but have been using the tourist visa with no problems for the past few years. After returning to Phuket from work last time I was told I cannot keep using the free visa.

I submitted today all my information, 6 months of payslips, bank account savings in showing over the required amount. My work gave me a letter to confirm I am a remote worker but put my passport I was using up until earlier this year. I still have the passport but I am concerned that they may reject based on that it is not the same as the passport I submitted. I have applied to the Thai embassy in South Africa.

Does anyone have any insight on my situation or anyway I can send an updated document to the embassy now that it is submitted?

Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
An offshore worker living in Phuket applied for a DTV visa after previously using a tourist visa. They submitted a letter from their employer verifying their remote work status but used an older passport for the submission. Concerned about potential rejection due to the passport discrepancy, they sought advice on whether they could provide updated documents to the embassy after submitting their application. Community members provided insights on remote work requirements for the DTV, the implications of submitting additional documentation, and alternative visa options.

I work offshore and applied through soft power, it's not classed as remote working.

I don't understand all these comments, if your home address is in Thailand and you're working outside Thailand that is remote work. My DTV was approved, the only thing my work contract had to state was remote work, offshore is about as remote as you can get. I have no idea about the posters actual question.

I believe that things would have been much easier if you had chosen a muay thai or a cooking class. Technically you are not a remote worker, nor a freelancer. There's nothing u can do now, just wait and hope that the embassy accept your application even tho I see it difficult

You aren’t working "remotely from Thailand". You are working OUTSIDE of Thailand. A DTV is for people who work "remotely FROM Thailand"

Your oil-rig job does not make you a digital nomad or "remote worker"

I don't see your application going through. If it does, you can count yourself as being a very very lucky man

*** if you are over 50 years old, your got the option of applying for a 90-days Non-Imm-O over 50/retirement Visa, enter Thailand, get a bank account opened ASAP and put a deposit of a minimum of 800,000 THB into the account.

Then apply for the “1-year Extension of the Stay Permit”, and buy a multiple re-entry permit for this one year stay permit.

This would allow you unlimited times of exiting and re-entering Thailand within this one year. The annual “extension” only needs to get applied for every year

You should have applied via soft power from the UK.

When they request additional documents it does not reset the processing clock. In fact after I submitted additional docs it was approved in hours. You also don't need to work remotely from Thailand. They'll likely ask you for more documents and you can basically create a cover letter. I was asked to write a letter stating why I wanted a DTV and I wrote a short letter about my remote work and that I wanted to spend my time in Thailand because I love the culture. With that I put a letter from my manager.

Just wait for them to request for more docs and make sure anything additional you submit is clear and what they want. And with your passport just do a cover letter that's short explanation.

Being a remote worker is not enough. You need to work remotely FROM Thailand and your employer needs to give you permission to do that along with a statement that you won't work for or interact with clients inside Thailand

That’s not necessarily true. At no point during the application process does it ask for your employer’s permission. The requirements are straightforward — proof of employment or contract, recent bank statements, and proof of residence. Nowhere does it request a letter or statement from your employer granting permission for the visa. How do I know this? Because I was just approved for the DTV visa myself. At no point did I provide any proof or documentation showing that my employer gave me permission — it was never asked for

it depends on the consulate. Some do ask for this specifically.

With that said, I’d still recommend confirming that your employer is okay with you working remotely from Thailand. That’s just common sense. But as far as the DTV visa application itself goes, the embassy doesn’t ask for that information or require any proof of employer permission.

if you put your home address in Thailand as a remote worker it's fine my DTV was approved

the OP isn't working "remotely from Thailand". He is working OUTSIDE of Thailand. . . . . . his oil-rig job does not make him a digital nomad or "remote worker". . . I don't see his application going through. If it does, he can count himself as being a very very lucky man

Nongnuch Kamdee Under the “workcation” category, being a remote worker is just one possible qualification. You could just as easily be a freelancer or employed elsewhere — the key requirement is simply that your income originates from outside of Thailand. That’s what matters, not your specific job title or arrangement

Workcation (digital nomad/remote worker/foreign talent/freelancer)

After you submitted the application you can not do anything to change the application, until the Embassy eventually ask for additional documentation, which by the way, resets the visa processing clock back to zero, and then you should only provide the information the Embassy asks for, and nothing else.

Or your application get rejected.
