TLDR : Answer Summary
The cancellation of Thai Airways flight TG917 from London Heathrow to Bangkok on April 12, 2024, has raised concerns among travelers about the implications for their travel plans. Community comments discuss the stress associated with last-minute cancellations and suggest that affected passengers should pursue EU261 compensation. Others mention the possibility of alternative arrangements with EVA Air, highlighting code-sharing practices among airlines. The ongoing geopolitical situation is noted as a contributing factor to increased flight cancellations.

Many airlines are cancelling flights at the moment because of the Iran/Israel situation as they prepare/reroute new options

Every EVA and ANA flight I’ve taken in last 2+ years has been code share with at least 4 other airlines including Thai. If you booked directly with carrier they should be able to get you on your way. Friends that have booked with agents and in this situation are just out of luck.

I used to work at the airport and if the flight is canceled, it made no difference how you bought the ticket. If you are making voluntary changes, it could make a difference.

Spot on Ken! I’ve booked direct with airlines and also via agents. Several times connections missed due to late/cancelled flight legs. The airport where you’re at reschedules your flights. How you booked your flights doesn’t come into it.

@Ken ******
I’ve seen others have different experiences. I think it’s best to book with the airline directly.

Whats the code sharing thing about ?
Andrew *******
@Mike *******
it’s about airlines maximising ticket sales. They can sell tickets for flights they don’t ever intend to fly. Increases the routes they can offer with no investment cost. Then they take up seats on other airlines planes that would otherwise be empty. Those other airlines are likewise selling seats on the first airlines planes on routes the other airline doesn’t fly. Everybody gets rich. Well, not you, but the airlines, they making bank.

@Mike *******
you book ticket with one airline and they hire another airline to take their passengers.

@David ********
yeah i think that is kinda wrong . I purposely booked Eva cos prefer the food and get put on Thai . It’s not what I paid for .

@Harvey ****
normally if it's a code share the number after the Airline prefix (example TG =Thai) is 4 numbers, if it's 3 then the route is operated by the actual airline you're booking There is also a note on the ticket that says it will be operated by.......

@Harvey ****
did you book through EVA?
Harvey *****
@David ********
erm through sky scanner prob but selected Eva flights

Any involved don’t forget to claim your eu 261 compensation afterwards

@Chris ********
I got a payout from Wizz Air, for a 3-hour delay IST - LTN in 2 weeks.

@Chris ********
I did mine on a 7 hr delay and got £550 and Emirates were very good and paid in 6 weeks. Three week after email they said they would clarify the claim. All good.

@Paul *******
well done Paul. I got my payout from Lufthansa but they were very awkward to pay out took about a year.
Paul ********
@Chris ********

With Emirates and both paid within 6 weeks

@Paul *******
yeah Lufthansa were quite nasty at times. Did it with Ryanair once paid in 2 weeks no issues

Last minute cancellations are a major headache for all involved. The test of a good / great airline is how well they recover and assist those affected.
