TLDR : Answer Summary
The potential for entry issues into Thailand depends on your previous travel history and the discretion of the Immigration Officer. With a total of 174 days spent in Thailand on two visits since November 2024, it may be perceived that you are attempting to stay longer term rather than as a tourist. If you arrive on a Visa Exempt Stamp, there is a risk of being questioned or possibly refused entry. To mitigate this, it is recommended to apply for a visa that aligns with your intentions for a longer stay.

What i do is when i line up at immigration que i look for the line that moves fast.these officers just stamp n do the biometrics n let u past through unlike the slow lines r the ones officers r asking too much questions

It will always be up to the Immigration Officer who takes your passport when you arrive, Having said that, your past history of staying in Thailand indicates that you are not a tourist anymoe but are trying to stay longer term in Thailand. Therefore, if you attempt to arrive on a Visa Exempt Stamp, then you are lokely to be taken aside for questioning and possibly refused entry into Thailand. Best you obtain a visa appropriate to the reason for your stay in Thailand.

I thought that only Thai immigration officers have this weird and stupid imagination that you can’t be a tourist for more than a few weeks!

Most countrys and reasonalby minded people accept that up 90 days in a country is tourism. A good example of this is the international agreement that allows tourist to drive on their national licence (often also requires an International Drivers certificate) in a cnother country as a visitor - universally accepted as 90 days. After that visitors need to obtain a licence from the country (as in Thailand). After 90 day in a country being visited, a person is no longer consider a tourist.

I think it’s fine to come twice a year for even 60 days each time

But 174 days versus 120 is a different story

I’ve had no issues with 120 days last two years

But I have heard of many trying to get 180 days having issues
