Hi, I've emailed the Thai Embassy in Washington DC but they have yet to reply. So my question is:

I am a Retire US Military member. My medical is via TriCare (US Government). To apply for a Non-O based on Retirement the rules are I need to supply an Original Medical Policy. TriCare does not issue Policies.

While in Thailand I pay for medical treatments and apply for reimbursements, I have done this in the past.

So my question is what can I supply as proof of Insurance?

Thanks in advance. dz

TLDR : Answer Summary
A U.S. military retiree seeking a Non-O visa for retirement in Thailand must provide proof of health insurance, which TriCare does not issue as a formal policy. While some suggestions include obtaining a temporary health insurance policy that meets the visa requirement criteria (covering outpatient and inpatient treatments), it's noted that using TriCare as proof could be challenging. Alternatives such as coming to Thailand on a tourist visa and then applying for the Non-O visa locally after completing quarantine may also be viable.

Thank You Sir for your Service...

May I suggest you forget getting the Non O for retirement in the USA. As it has a dual insurance requirement.

You can come to Thailand simply with either a tourist visa or visa exempt on arrival.

And following ASQ quarantine see your local Thai Immigration office to get the list of requirements to obtain the Non O for retirement inside Thailand...followed immediately by a one year extension of stay as retired.

Here is Washington DC requirements for the Non O if you wish to obtain it in the US.

Non-Immigrant Visa Category “O” (retirement)

Purpose of Visit: This type of visa may be issued to applicants aged 50 years and over who wish to stay in Thailand for a period of not exceeding 90 days without the intention of working. Holder of this type of visa is allowed to stay in Thailand for 90 days. Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited.

Eligibility:

1. Applicant must be aged 50 years and over (on the day of submitting application)

2. Applicant not prohibited from entering the Kingdom as provided by the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979)

3. Having the nationality of or residence in the country where applicant’s application is submitted

4. Applicant must have a Thai health insurance for the duration of stay, with coverage for outpatient treatment of no less than 40,000 baht and inpatient treatment of no less than 400,000 baht.

Trying to use Tricare as proof of insurance is difficult.

Suggesting you simply get a three month insurance policy.

There are several good ones...

And are full health, medical, accident and COVID insurance policy

They also meet the dual requirements of any visa you apply for...including the New Non O for retirement.

I will post added info for you in the morning...as its a late night in Thailand.

But wanted to allow your post tonight to give you some initial feedback and food for thought on your visa options.

***One more question...***

Are you married to a Thai ?

Good night from Thailand.
