🥊 DTV Soft Power – Muay Thai | Manila Embassy | APPROVED ✅

Hey everyone! Sharing my full timeline for anyone going through the same process — hope this helps!

🇵🇹 Portuguese Passport

📋 Previous visas: Educational & Business

📅 May 20 – Application submitted

📋 May 22 – Additional documents requested

⏳ May 26 – Pending approval

🔍 May 27 – Pending documents check

📋 May 29 – Documents requested (x2)

⏳ June 1 – Pending approval

📋 June 2 – Documents requested again

⏳ June 2 – Pending approval

✅ June 7 (Sunday!) – APPROVED at 11:30

⏱️ Total: 18 days (12 business days)

📎 Extra documents requested:

• 4 months of bank statements (1 extra month requested)

• Muay Thai training program schedule ( on top of all gym docs)

• Proof of payment for the Muay Thai course (transfer slip, not receipt)

• Written explanation for having a Thai bank account (since proof of payment was a Thai bank slip)

• Photo of previous visa (picture of my multi entry Non B Visa)

💡 My tip: they requested documents multiple times, which can feel stressful — but I genuinely think they care about what you submit and how you explain it. Each time they asked for something, I attached a cover letter alongside the documents, clearly explaining anything that could raise questions and making myself available for further clarification, even offering to visit the embassy in person.

Worth the wait. Good luck everyone! 🙏🥊

Using your numbers, I think of the 1000 usd loss each year as 2.74 usd per day and as the cost of not thinking about my visa for 365 days.

I think of the 800k Thb as my moving away from Thailand money in case I get wanderlust again.

At the day it’s not an overly large sum of money to have sitting there as a placeholder to keep your visa.

I am from Australia and just the cost of living difference would be more than this at home each year.

If you are retiring and trying to be self funded you would have other investments to support your retirement.

I am probably 5 years off full time retirement for now it’s just planned visits to Thailand and my partner to my country.

When the time comes I see this as a non issue.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, especially those who offered constructive, informative responses without resorting to sarcasm.

Can ฿65,000 per month be deposited (via wire transfer) from my personal investment or savings accounts? I do not receive any pension, government benefits, or other guaranteed income, but I trade stocks/futures for living, and have sufficient savings to support myself.

Regarding the DTV visa: I am not particularly interested in Muay Thai or cooking classes, but I would be interested in language classes. That was the reason I originally inquired about a Non-ED visa as a possible replacement for a Non-O visa. Is there any way to obtain a DTV based on enrollment in a language school?

ED is for studying so no not on language alone. There are a couple of hybrid courses that include culture and language but mixed reports about people getting a DTV based on them

The OP view is short sighted. The approximate loss of $1000 per year is an opportunity cost for the benefit of living in a beautiful and affordable country. The money saved on even the most basic lifestyle in Thailand (versus the west ) is significant. Instead of fixating on the one aspect, do a cost vs benefit analysis of all the variables and a Thai retirement is a slam dunk for most retirees.

It all boils down to one simple truth: different strokes for different folks.

There will always be people who complain that the system is rigged and constantly ask “why, why, why?” about every rule and regulation.

In my view, the decision to move to Thailand should be based on three things only: cost of living, climate, and lifestyle. Everything else is secondary.

Every country has its own laws, regulations, and conditions for foreigners who choose to live there. Thailand is no different. If you find yourself constantly questioning or criticising the country’s visa and stay requirements, then perhaps Thailand is not the right destination for you.

Nobody is forced to live there. If you don’t like the rules, stay where you are and enjoy life at home.

I agree, it's totally insane quite honestly. It should be enough to show that you have sufficient funds in any country to cover any expenses such as medical bills. Thailand benefits already from the fact that monies Westerners live here. And when it comes to married couples, it's even worse. In Germany at least, most non-EU citizens can get a residence permit or visa for 5 years - without having to renew every year. Thailand should offer reciprocal conditions.

But it is what it is.

Think of the interest you could've earned on the 800k THB during the first year of the Non-O as you would property tax back in your home country. That's why many retirees will also start doing the 65k monthly deposit concurrently, so that they can withdraw the initial 800k THB the following year when they renew.

I can understand why, JJ O Connor. A legit agent will make sure they have all the necessary paperwork, are up to date on the latest rules & regs as understood by the local immigration officers, doesn't get "hot hearted" walking the paperwork from window to window and waiting around while the bureaucracy slowly grinds through its procedure, and instinctively applies all of the institutional politeness Thai authorities expect.

I don't pay my agent to game the system, I pay her so all I have to do is get my bank statements and letter and have my picture taken. I'm in and out in minutes, she's there most of the day. Totally worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Tommy Suriwong each visa has its advantages and disadvantages, you have to decide what is important for your situation. A DTV visa has many advantages but the dis advantage of having to leave the Country every 180 days. The Non-OA and subsequent extensions of stayhave the advantage of long stay without having to leave, and the disadvantage of having to tie up money in a bank account. By the way it is not 0 zero interest, depending on what bank you use, Kasikorn pays interest, granted not much but they do pay interest. This alleged loss of interest for keeping 800,000 THB equivalent invested in your home country, gets completely more than amortized by the opportunity to live in a country where everything costs less than half compared to prices in your home country.

The advantage is worth much more than this peanut money you make in interest on $25,000 USD

If you can’t afford to dismiss this interest, you should not live in Thailand but stay in your expensive home country.

I find it ridiculous an argument against not parking 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account, even if the interest is low or not existing, and instead use an agent to front the deposit and keep it in your account for 5 minutes. Technically, you will be in overstay right after the agent has removed the money. You are now caught in the hamster wheel and must use the agent over and over again, because you are violating the law.

Actually, this deposit is adding to your security. You can use this deposit as a last resort to health insure yourself in case of emergency

I am done & dusted on my both my bank and Immigration in 25 minutes. I do my annual extensions by the book, every year, since 17 years. It is as easy as a breeze.

You just feel free to fork out for the agent 16-20,000 Baht every year for 10 minutes of work and feel brave and happy about it 😂😂😂😂

If you feel that Thailand is not worth a one time ± 30 k baht opportunity loss for living here for the rest of your life (because from the 2nd year you can use the 65k per month method), then you really can't be interested being here.

And I understand why Thailand has no intrest in people who have a problem with 30k baht.

But Thailand is generous... you can also apply for the LTR-WP visa, which has no opportunity cost.

It is a 1 year requirement, after which you can switch to 65 k per month. What is so difficult about this little "sacrifice" (cough cough) to be able to live here for tne rest of your life ? Putting 800k for just 1 year for decades of living here.

People having a problem with this requirement, have a money or an attitude problem, both of which Thailand is free to refuse to let stay.

Is it worth it? Of course not. In no world is it worth it. You can leave it at home, make your easy 8% ++annually. Take the 64k interest (less applicable tax if any) and pay your agent 18k to handle it all for you. You don't pull your hair out every year dealing with the bank. You don't drive around your location in sweltering heat looking for parking. You don't need to go meet new begpacker friends at immigration every year. Agent does it all. There are massage chairs downstairs starting at 10 baht while you wait for your number to come up. You walk around and enjoy the food stalls or events which are organized frequently. Sometimes big name concert for free in the open space of the building. All while you wait for your number to come up.

I have been to the immigration building just for some events , not because I needed to for extensions. It's fun. Seems you don't know how to enjoy life in the kingdom because you fail to notice all these events and weird peculiarities at the site.

And afterwards there is a good hidden restaurant 1 train stop away I always go to with an agent friend.
