TLDR : Answer Summary
The user describes their experience applying for a DTV visa via the Laos consulate, detailing the steps taken from application to approval. After applying online on March 23, 2025, and following up with required documents and an interview on April 1, their visa was approved the same day. They noted the importance of having proof of the DTV visa upon arrival in Thailand and shared advice regarding immigration requirements for stays longer than 90 days.

Why did you keep going to The consulate? You can just do it online until you get the interview.

Wow so quick, I applied on 18 march and still saying pending approval!

Anonymous participant 201 I think you should walk to the Embassy and ask. If you can get past the security guard.

I always prefer to do visa things in Savannakhet, and I used to apply for a Non-O visa there all the time.

Thank you for your quick answer. Can you tell me please what they wanted to know from you at the interview ? What questions did they ask you ?

I forgot to mention that the Thai Immigration Officer gave me a small pink paper with the date. It stated that if you stay more than 90 days in Thailand, you need to go nearest immigration office to report or do it online. It is to confirm the location of your stay. If you stay less than 90 days in Thailand, you don't need to report.

You should have STAYED IN LAOS until the DTV Visa decision was made. You were lucky that the Thai Embassy or Consulate didn't ask to see EACH page of your passport. It has happened.

Enjoy your DTV Visa

If your passport is visa-free in Thailand, you can visit the country and then return. The Thai embassy or consulate will not question you.

@Boaz ****
that simply is not true, the rules for evisa application tell you to stay in the country where you apply, regardless what kind of passport you have.
Anonymous ******************
@Boaz ****
That's completely incorrect. Visa-free entry is for tourists and has nothing to do with your visa application. You need to approach it as it was in the past: waiting in the application country for several days until receiving the final stamp and being allowed to travel to Thailand.

@Boaz ****
as I said...you were supposed to stay in Laos UNTIL the DTV visa was approved or not.
John **********
@Boaz ****
they have been known to reject the visa application for exactly this behaviour. As
@James *******
said you should have remained in the country you applied in

@John *********
he's NOT listening. Luckily he now has the DTV visa.

They looked at my passport and never enquired about visas out and in. But make sure you arrive at the interview on time.

@Boaz ****
I'm guessing they just assumed you hadn't left given you turned up to pay and for interview

Thank You for your helpful report 👍

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

I travelled to many countries and returned to Bangkok. All check-in counters never asked me for proof of visa because my passport allows me to travel to 177 countries without a visa.

@Boaz ****
that's wonderful. Others are not as lucky as you.
