can you 'convert' the visa-exempt on arrival into a Non-Imm O at the Jomthein Immigration office? or do you have to have a tourist visa inorder to convert to Non-Imm O.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You cannot directly convert a visa-exempt entry into a Non-Imm O visa; instead, you must apply for a new visa using form TM 87. It's necessary to have at least 15 days remaining on your visa-exempt stamp because the application takes up to 14 days for consideration before the Non-O visa is issued.

no, then you would use the TM-86 because you held a tourist visa and are changing from a tourist VISA to a Non-O visa.

you are NOT converting anything :/ You are applying for a brand new visa and you'd use form TM.87 visa application not Tm.86 change of visa status ;)

you can do it but you need 15 days or more remaining on your 30 day visa exempt stamp to do it. That's because it goes under consideration for 14 days before you go back and get the 90 day Non-O stamped into your passport.
