Hello everyone, I've been to the American embassy outrach in Patong, I had my income affidavit notarized as well as a copy of my passport. I also have the required amount of baht in a local bank and I've downloaded and filled out the application from the Thai embassy website. What other documents will be required by Thai immigration in Penang in order to convert a tourist visa into an O visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To convert a tourist visa to a Non-O visa in Thailand, you generally need the following documents: a notarized income affidavit, a copy of your passport, evidence of sufficient funds in a Thai bank account (800K baht or monthly income of at least 65K baht), and application forms from the immigration office. Depending on the immigration office's requirements, you may need at least 15-21 days remaining on your current visa for processing. It's possible to perform this process at local immigration offices in Thailand rather than traveling to Penang.

I went to the office and I was given a form to fill out, he asked me to get a letter from my bank, (which I did today), make two copies of my picture page, visa page, and departure card and bring them back to him. There are spaces for pictures, (4X6) cm. I glued in the pictures that I had, (standard passport size), I think they'll work, if not they make pictures there. I'll keep you posted.

, most offices allow when you have 30 days left on that new 90 day stamp you'll get you apply for a yearly extension of stay based on retirement for 1900baht.

To be clear, after the 90 days is up, can I get a year on the O visa?

I'll do that Tod Daniels, if this works out I'll avoid going to Penang. ;)

@Mike *******
like I said, they usually take your application, take the 2000baht fee and it goes "under consideration" for 14 days. Then you go back and get the 90 day Non-O inked into your passport along with a new 90 day admitted until stamp.

Definitely keep us updated on how it goes for you, good luck :)

It seem's so, I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.

then it sounds like you'll be able to do the conversion from a tourist visa to a 90 day Non-O visa at the immigration office. :)

Yes , just go with all your papers to the immigration in phuket town and try it....I think it will work easy.

Please inform us what happened.

A friend was told there to do it in Penang to make it easier for him....

But please try and inform us .

My current visa is good until December 25, which is over a month. Do you think they can get it changed over in a month?

Mike here on Phuket u will need more the. 15 days some officer say 21 days left on your tourist visa to change it to a NON O, I advise u to fly direct with firefly to Penang and get it there in 2 days, if you a Have all papers ready it is easy. And if u not want to got by yourself I will send a PM for an advice over there.

If U have the NON o you can easy transfer it to a retired visa here in Phuket town, patong will,not do it !

So, I don't need to go to Penang in order to change my current tourist visa into an O visa? That's good news. I have the notarized income affidavit from the American embassy as well as the required amount in a local bank. My current visa is good until December 25th, and I can extend it for another 30 days. It sounds like I should go to the immigration office sooner rather than later, as you say it takes three weeks for the visa to be approved. Again, you're saying I can change my visa here at the Phuket immigration office, without having to go to Panang to the Thai consulate?
Tod *********
right you do it in country if you meet the requirements and you have enough time left on your current stamp (y)

@Mike *******
, Then you wouldn't be going to the thai consulate in Penang Malaysia. You would do that at the thai immigration office that serves the area where you live.

Depending on the immigration office you would need at least 15 days left on your current "admitted until" stamp because Non-O visas go under consideration for 14 days before you go back and get it stamped into your passport. Some offices want at least 3 weeks left on your current stamp because they have to send the paperwork to a head office to get approved.

You would use form TM.86 Change Visa Status and it would cost 2000baht at the immigration office to do it.

I would stop by the immigration office in your area and ask for the hand out as far as required documentation. For the financial requirements you could use 800K baht banked in a thai account in your name OR the notary document from your consulate stating you get over 65 K baht a month OR a combination of the two that equals 800K baht for the year.

I want to convert my current tourist visa into an O visa.

There is no thai immigration office in Penang, that's malaysia :O and is where the thai consulate is :/

What is it you are trying to do?

Do you want to get a 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement) from the consulate down there? OR are you wanting to go to the immigration office in your area and apply for the 90 day Non-O from them?
