Quick question; when you go to apply for a 12 month retirement visa extension for the 2nd time is there a 2 week 'under consideration' period or do you get the stamp on the same day? Many thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a 12-month retirement visa extension for the second time in Thailand, the general consensus is that you often receive your stamp on the same day of application, although experiences may vary by immigration office. Some areas may experience a brief under consideration period, especially if a home visit is required, but this is rare for retirement visas. Various commenters noted their quick experiences, with many receiving their extensions without delay. However, certain locations, like Pattaya, may require a return visit to collect the extension, seemingly as a bureaucratic practice.

Pattaya always makes you return the following day after 2pm. It's to demonstrate their power over those who pay their wages; to screw another 40baht parking fee out of you; to add to the poor air quality. After an IO has scrutinised your docs, there should be no reason why he can't do the stamp there and then, even when you've done it all 20 times already like I have.

Under consideration is when applying for it - when you do your 1 year extension its the same day

I get mine on the same day. I use a provincial Immigration and they are very effective. The 1-year extension, a 90-days report and a single re-entry permit, everything done and dusted on the same day within 25 minutes. I never had to wait, I was always asked to sit down across the officer after I entered. Been doing it since 17 years. That's the advantage using a countryside Immigration. When we lived on Jomtien Beach for 2.5 years, I never registered TM30 there in order to avoid Jomtien Immigration, I remained registered upcountry as the application fell into New Year and I love to spend it with the family

I applied for my one-year non-O retirement extension and a Multiple Re-entry permit at 9:15 AM. I left at 10:15 AM. It cost me 1900 and 3800 baht, respectively. Then I requested a special proof of residence, required for applying for my Thai driver's license and obtaining the white license plate for my car. This was produced immediately in duplicate for 800 baht. Immigration office in Pathum Thani. Friendly staff and very quick service.

in duplicate because you need one each for the car and the motorcycle separately?

You need one original document and one copy for both driver's licenses. You also need an original document to apply for the white license plate.

you do also have to meet the criteria for an extension, mostly 800k baht in your thai bank account for 2 months before you apply, but visit your local immigration office and verify their requirements

Normally, it will be issued the same day you apply for it.

Obviously every immigration office is different, so it's not a guarantee. You might get an under consideration if they want to do a home visit (rare for retirement but becoming more common).

Proof of what? I said it's rare to get a home visit. Nor did I mention any specific immigration offices.

I've now had a couple of home visits on a retirement extension but no under consideration period. Extension always issued on the day and the home visit a week or 2 later.

just let them know your plans if it doesn't look like you'll get it immediately. They can be flexible, but only if you let them know right then.
