Hi! I’m thinking of leaving my current job which would mean losing my work permit and my non-imm visa. If I leave, will it be easy to get on the covid extension and what is the process regarding this? I’m also worried in case I don’t get on the covid extension I will lose out on my 3 month condo lease that I just signed! Any help and advice appreciated please

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering leaving their job, which would result in losing their work permit and non-immigrant visa. They inquire about the ease of applying for a COVID extension under these circumstances and express concerns about potentially losing their newly signed 3-month condo lease if their extension is not approved.
Sounds like you're still on the original 90 day entry from the Non-immigrant visa from your employer and haven't filed for an extension at the immigration office based on employment.
Ah okay! So if I extend my non immigrant visa next week for the 1 year, and decide to quit after that, I can still stay for at least 90 days? I’m only thinking of staying in Thailand until December
no. If you get an extension and the reason for that extension stops then so does the validity of the extension. You need to cancel your work permit and then go to immigration the same day. What Tod was referring to was your actual visa as in the sticker in your passport. You can’t cancel that but you must cancel an extension the same day as your last working day, or go a few days earlier to cancel and you’ll get a new stamp until your last working day.
sounds a little confusing! Basically I have to cancel my work permi and current visa on the same day, and then I can get the covid extension on that same day as I cancel my other visas?
if your employer allows get a letter saying you are finishing on xx/xx date maybe a couple of weeks in advance. Take that to the labour department to cancel your work permit then go to immigration with the documents they give you. You’ll get a new stamp until xx/xx date when you must either leave Thailand or sort out another alternative method to stay.
nope, doesn't work that way. IF you extend your Non-B for a year, and then you lose your job, you lose the extension. It's ONLY that first 90 days from the visa itself that you can stay on whether you work or not.
Okay! Thank you for explaining. So basically if I quit my job once my visa is extended for the one year already, I will then lose my non imm visa and have to get the covid extension?
You cancel your work permit, take that and the termination letter from your company to the immigration office and apply for a 60 day covid extension. MOST offices are giving a 2 week under consideration stamp and then you go back to get the covid extension inked in.
