TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the renewal process for driver's licenses in Bangkok, specifically through the Department of Land Transport (DLT). Users share their experiences regarding appointment wait times, noting that they can vary significantly: from 5 weeks in Phuket to just 2 weeks in Pattaya, and some managed to renew without an appointment. It is mentioned that a medical certificate is required, which is valid only for a month, adding to the urgency for some expats.

that does say transfer from one's country to a thai license. Mine was a renewal which had expired due to being stuck in Australia during covid. Maybe why they just renewed it, I just walked in explained it was expired, did 2 lots of paperwork, showed thai id, yellow book and 5 year visa and got them renewed.

I’ve heard of some getting 3 months ahead appointments in Phuket. Probably during covid times, but still a pain.

yes I live in Udon and know AEK. That's where I went to get my medical certificate. I didn't realise there was an office there to also get a licence. I don't if it makes any difference but this was my first Thai licence and converting from UK licence.
