Good morning everyone.

I am moving to Koh Samui in March 2024 and will be living in my Thai wife's house.

I am an Australian citizen and receive the Aged Pension (Aust$2160/month).

Can someone kindly outline the process to obtain a Thai Marriage Visa?

Thanks in advance.๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian citizen moving to Koh Samui and looking to obtain a Thai Marriage Visa should follow these steps: 1) Confirm marriage registration in Thailand and gather necessary documents, including proof of no other marriages from the Australian embassy. 2) Deposit 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account in their name. 3) Apply for a 90-day NON-O visa based on marriage upon arrival. 4) Before the 90-day visa expires, apply for a 12-month extension based on marriage, which may involve further documentation and potential requirements from local immigration offices. It is also noted that the retirement visa might be an easier option if the financial requirements are met.

I have at the moment a 90 day non O evisa based on marriage.

When should I apply for a retirement visa, I got the 800,000 in the bank atm

Why is retirement visa easy, I like the idea of ease

I didn't say you had to apply for a retirement visa, I just made the statement that in my opinion it's easy. And much easier than a marriage visa for obvious reasons. But if as already stated you have applied to a marriage visa and you have done your homework it shouldn't be a problem. Don't need an agent for either, good luck.

So how am I able to get a retirement visa?

your first extension has to be for the reason the visa was issued

- if you apply for the visa as i explained above - they will ask for proof that you are eligible to marry !! Bizarre โ€ฆ i just did this and fortunately had that paper with me ..

You won't get $2160 after 6 weeks you will get $2012 a month.

If you do it in thailand - you need to apply for change of visa type - if you come in on visa exempt . They will give you a 90 day thai wife visa . Check online for requirements . Before 90 days is up u need to do entire process again and apply for 1 year thai wife . Good luck

Assuming you are officially married and got married in Thailand then you first need to put 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only then apply for a 90 day Non-O visa followed by a 12 month extension of stay

You will need
*****
0thb in a thai bank account in your name only, that's if your going to live in Thailand.

You have to go to your embassy to get the clearance procedures to say that you are not married to anyone else they will give you the ok and valid passport

A translator that can speak thai and English

You will be given two copies of the wedding certificate

You will need to get one translated into English for your country

When you go to the Amphur you should bring your witness with you

That's all I can remember now Good luck

You cannot get a 12 month marriage visa from inside Thailad - only and extension of stay based on marriage. Go to your local Government office and ask what else they require to register your marriage. Go to local Immigration office and get their list of requirements. Hint. Extension of stay based on Marriage has more hoops to jump through than an retirement extension which is easy if you have 800, 000 thb in your Thai bank.
