Hi all , Iโ€™m just beginning my visa research process. I would like to apply for non o retirement based on 800000 baht in Thai bank account. Will be applying from Oz , I understand you get initial 90 days, then apply for 1 year extension, what happens after that,, ? Do you continue to apply for yearly extensions ? Also have things changed & is health insurance a must? ? Tia ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-O retirement visa allows an initial stay of 90 days, followed by a yearly extension. To secure the extension, one must have 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account for at least 2 months before applying. It's important to note that health insurance is not a requirement for the Non-O visa; it is only required for the Non OA visa. Additionally, holders must report to immigration every 90 days.

With such questions it sounds like a good time to get a Visa agent involved to lay out a course of action.

To answer your question โ€œdo you continue to apply for your yearly extension?โ€ the answer is yes, but in between you must report to immigration every 90 days.

most 90 day reports can be done online

very true but the point is you still have to report every 90 days in between applications for Ext of stay whether you do it online or in person. Youโ€™re still reporting to Immigration.

where did I say otherwise?

In the UK, you do not need 800,000 baht to get a non-O. I have applied for 3 over the last 5 years and have never had more than 40,000 in my bank account. However, you will need 800,000 in a Thai bank account for 2 months before you can apply for your yearly extension, so if you do not have a Thai bank account, it must be the first thing you do. No insurance is necessary for a Non-O visa.

If you don't already have a Thai bank account get the 90 day Non-O before you travel as you won't be able to open a bank account on a tourist visa

Ulrik is ๐Ÿ’ฏ correct. When you apply for the Non O visa in Aus, you can use money in your Aus bank as proof, but when you apply for the 1 year extension in Thailand your 800,000 has to have been in the Thai account for 2 months (I think you know this already, but just confirming). The non O does not have a mandatory insurance requirement. It is the non OA that requires insurance and police checks etc. The only thing that has changed recently is opening a bank account. It used to be possible with a tourist visa, but now you need a long term visa (like the non O) to open an account, so you will be okay. Good luck.

you must be in the Non-OA section to be getting that requirement. Non-O stands for 'other', so it's a bit of a catch all visa for anything that doesn't have a separate visa. The non-O must still be there otherwise the visa advice page would be full of Australian people complaining about it. The requirements for the 90 day non-o retirement visa are on this picture from the Australian site and it doesn't mention insurance (picture attached). If all else fails, maybe make a separate post to ask where it is and I am sure one of the moderators will direct you.

no worries, thank you ๐Ÿ™ Stuart, Iโ€™m having trouble finding the non o retirement without health insurance,, appreciate your time and help

The Australian website is not clear, so I can understand why you are struggling to find it, but I would need to create an account to get to the page and I don't really want to do that. The top option in the picture I sent is the visa you need.

Extension has to be applied every year. For Non O insurance is not required.
